Dean graduated from Snow College with an AS Degree in 1991, a BS Degree in Education from Utah State University in 1994, and Earned a Masters Degree from Western Governors University in 2005. Dean grew up in the Bay Area in Northern California. He has been happily married for 21 years and has 3 children. When he is not working on technology or in the library, he enjoys hitting the golf courses and playing a little softball.
Ms. Candia graduated from the Snow College with an AS Degree in 2002, a BA Degree in Sociology from the University of Utah in 2004, and currently finishing up a Masters of Science Degree in School Counseling from the University of Phoenix. Ms. Candia grew up in Ephraim, UT and is originally from Durango, Mexico. She loves working in education helping students succeed in school. Ms. Candia also enjoys reading, hiking, horseback riding, soccer, and volleyball.
Mrs. Christensen graduated from BYU with a Bachelors degree in Health Education in 2004. She also certified as an EMT, and worked as an EMT in the Emergency Room. She began teaching Health Sciences in 2004 at Granger High, as well as being a cheerleading advisor and track coach. She started teaching the Emergency Medicine courses at the GTI in 2005, the year the GTI opened. She earned her Masters Degree in Education in 2011 from Weber State University, and completed her administrative endorsement in 2014 from Utah State University. She loves to spend time with her husband and little boy. She also loves to go for nice, long runs.
Mrs. England is a graduate from Westminster College with a BA in English Education and Elementary Education, and an ESL endorsement from the University of Utah. Mrs. England has taught at Brockbank for the past nine years, eight years at Pioneer Elementary (grades 1,2,3,5), and two years at Riverview JHS (Murray School District).
She and her husband have two sons (both attended Brockbank and graduated from Cyprus), a daughter-in-law, and two dogs (Harley and Rosie). She and her husband enjoy taking trips on their motorcycles. Mrs. England particularly enjoys watching the Seahawks win.
Mrs. James attended Snow College until 2010 when she then transferred to Utah Valley University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education. She has been married a little under a year now and was born and raised in West Jordan, Utah. She loves all things outdoors from softball to fishing and everything in between. Mrs. James is excited to be teaching at Brockbank Jr. High this year. Go Braves!!
Mr. Gudmundson is in his second year as a counselor at Brockbank Junior High. Raised in Salt Lake he is a graduate of Granger High School. He is a third generation Aggie, having received a BA in Family and Community Services and a MS in Psychology. He worked for three years for DDI VANTAGE-Early Intervention. He and his wife have three children. He is fluent in Spanish and dreams of being fluent in Japanese as well.
Mrs. Heugly graduated from Salt Lake Community College with an Associate’s Degree in 2011, a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah in 2014, and is currently attending Utah State University for a Master’s Degree in Education. Mrs. Heugly has been married for 2 years and grew up in Taylorsville, Utah. She can be found coaching cheer and tumbling at Synergy Gym, reading, or playing with her dog Rigby when she is not teaching her students math.
Mrs. S. Jones has taught at Brockbank for 16 years. She is actually related to another teacher here at Brockbank.
Mrs. Jones has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (U of U) with an emphasis in painting and drawing, a Master’s of Education in Teaching Reading (U of U), and Administrative Certification from USU.
She has been married to the same awesome man for 40 years, has two sons, one grandson, and no pets. When not teaching, reading, painting, quilting, or cooking, she can be found riding her beloved LandRider Bicycle.
Graduate of Weber State with a BS, composite major in Instrumental/ Choral Music and Education. MA from University of Phoenix in School Counseling. Taught Instrumental/ Choral music three years at North Sevier High School and Middle School Sevier School Dist.; Taught Instrumental Music thirteen years at West Lake Jr. High, four years at Granite High School and Granite Park Jr. High; Counselor at Brockbank Jr. High seven years. Hails from Cody, Wyoming. Wife of twenty five years; two children, daughter age 22 and son age 18. Lives in Murray.
Karel McDonough grew up in Minidoka County Idaho on a ranch bordered by the Snake River. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1971 with a BS degree in Education majoring in Psychology. Her teaching career started as a volunteer, aide and substitute teacher in Salt Lake District where her children went to school. In 1992 she earned a Master’s Degree in Educational administration from the U and renewed her music and teaching certification. That summer she began work at Brockbank on a year round schedule for the first 4 years. Karel and her husband Greg have 6 sons, 1 daughter, a Navajo foster daughter, 12 grandchildren and a great grandson. They have spent the last 48 years restoring a house in Salt Lake City that is now 115 years old. She plays percussion with the Salt Lake Symphony, relaxes gardening and spending time with her extended family. She is also active in the Parley’s Water users and her church choir director.
Roy graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors degree in Spanish and Biology, from Weber State University with a certificate in English as a Second Language, and from the University of Utah with two Masters degrees, one in Reading and another in Educational Administration. Roy has also completed science endorsements for 7th-8th grade Integrated Science, Environmental Science and Earth Science. Born in Minnesota, he grew up in the Pacific Northwest. Roy married his sweetheart and together they have ten children and one grand child. They have traveled extensively including most of the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Argentina.
A graduate from the University of Utah with a Masters in Special Education and a BS in Environmental Studies and Sociology from Utah State University. Mrs. Nielsen finished her student teaching at Hillside Middle School. She has over 4 years’ experience working with children with significant Autism Spectrum Disorders. She was recently married and they have 4 furry children; three rats and one very spoiled dog. Mrs. Nielsen truly loves working with students with disabilities and strives to help each child grow and achieve.
Mrs. Overson lives in our community and has taught Science at Brockbank for 22 years. She taught at Kearns Junior High for 5 years before joining us. She and her husband raised 4 children, who all attended Brockbank, and now enjoy their 5 grandchildren. Mrs. Overson graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS in Biology and completed endorsements in Special Education, ESL, and Integrated Science from various institutions. She is currently working on her Masters in Learning and Technology.
Diana graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in Theater and Physical Education in 1974. She received her master’s degree from Utah State University in Special Education in 2003. She obtained a reading endorsement two years later from Utah State University. Diana grew up on a dairy farm in West Jordan, Utah and loved swimming in the pond and floating the canal, building tree houses, and huts in the hay and camping and fishing. Water is her sport and her entertainment. She loves to read, teach, and to run rivers. She scuba dives and thinks one of the great adventures of her life was diving in Hawaii with manta rays and octopi. Diana has 4 children, all grown, and 19 grandchildren that she adores. She has been married 40 years to Ralph, who is often found building sets for the plays.
Ashley graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English teaching in August 2015, and she is so excited to be here at Brockbank Jr High! She grew up in St. George, UT, so snow and rain are still foreign things to her. She has been married to her husband for 5 months, and in her spare time she loves to read, swim, hike, take spontaneous road trips to go hiking, and convince her husband that adopting a pug would be the best choice for them.
This is Miss Roybal’s third year at Brockbank. She graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Elementary Education and taught 3rd grade for 6 years in West Jordan. She then received her Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah in May 2013. She was an intern assistant principal at West Lake Junior High during the 2012-2013 school year. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, and spending time with her family. Miss Roybal is excited for another great school year!
Ms. Shafer has taught at Brockbank since 1988. She has a BA in teaching English and a major equivalency degree in teaching Spanish from the University of Utah, an endorsement for teaching the Gifted and Talented from Utah State University, an endorsement for teaching English as a Second Language from Weber State University, and a Masters of Science in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. In addition, she has taken courses on William Shakespeare and related history at Southern Utah University and Cambridge University in England. When she is not grading students’ essays, she enjoys writing fiction and traveling.
This is my 25th year of teaching and my 18 year at Brockbank. I am a graduate of Brigham Young University. I am married with 5 children and have 4 grandchildren.

Mr. Wagner is the most awesomeness teacher in the Universe, yes I said UNIVERSE and the reason I say that instead of the world is because who’s to argue against that? I mean when some teacher outside of our solar system decides to debate me on that issue than fine…..until then I stand with my original premises!!
Mr. Walker is a Spanish and Latinos in Action teacher. He learned Spanish through school and living in both Argentina and the Dominican Republic. Mr. Walker studied Spanish Teaching at Brigham Young University, where he completed a BS. He has been married for almost 7 years and has one little boy. Mr. Walker is a big lacrosse fan, having played in high school, coached and has written articles for Utah Lacrosse News for the past 4 years.
