A graduate from the University of Utah with a Masters in Special Education and a BS in Environmental Studies and Sociology from Utah State University. Mrs. Nielsen finished her student teaching at Hillside Middle School. She has over 4 years’ experience working with children with significant Autism Spectrum Disorders. She was recently married and they have 4 furry children; three rats and one very spoiled dog. Mrs. Nielsen truly loves working with students with disabilities and strives to help each child grow and achieve.
Dean graduated from Snow College with an AS Degree in 1991, a BS Degree in Education from Utah State University in 1994, and Earned a Masters Degree from Western Governors University in 2005. Dean grew up in the Bay Area in Northern California. He has been happily married for 21 years and has 3 children. When he is not working on technology or in the library, he enjoys hitting the golf courses and playing a little softball.
This is Mrs. Brown’s third year at Brockbank. She graduated from Southern Utah University with a BS degree in Dance Education. While at SUU she was a member of the performing dance group Orchesis. She is involved with dance advocacy programs such as Art Fusion, NDEO & UDEO. She was raised in American Fork, Utah but now lives with her husband and beloved dogs in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah. Mrs. Brown believes that dance builds confidence, cooperation and many other life skills in all students and loves seeing the impact of that in our students here at Brockbank.
Mrs. England is a graduate from Westminster College with BAs in English Education and Elementary Education, minor in Art, and ESL endorsement. Mrs. England has taught at Brockbank JHS for the past seven years, and previously taught at Pioneer Elementary (grades 1,2,3,5), and Riverview JHS (in Murray School District).
She has lived in California, Washington State, Virginia, and Utah. Mrs. England and her husband have two sons and a daughter-in-law, and two dogs. She and her husband enjoy taking trips on their motorcycles.
Mrs. Gale has a BS from the University of Utah, a BA from Westminster College and a MS from Utah State University. She taught elementary education for 16+ years , grades 1-6th. This is her 9th year as a school counselor at Brockbank Jr. High. She was raised in the Salt Lake Valley and lives with her husband and their dog, Koda in the Millcreek-Holladay area. She is the mother of one son.
Mr. Gudmundson is in his second year as a counselor at Brockbank Junior High. Raised in Salt Lake he is a graduate of Granger High School. He is a third generation Aggie, having received a BA in Family and Community Services and a MS in Psychology. He worked for three years for DDI VANTAGE-Early Intervention. He and his wife have three children. He is fluent in Spanish and dreams of being fluent in Japanese as well.
Mrs. Jones has taught at Brockbank for 13 years. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (U of U) with an emphasis in painting and drawing, a Master’s of Education in Teaching Reading (U of U), and Administrative Certification from USU. She is currently working on a Technology Endorsement from Spy Hop for Teachers/Adobe Youth Voices.
She has been married to the same awesome man for 39 years, has two children, one grandchild, and no pets. When not teaching, reading, painting, quilting, or cooking, she can be found riding her beloved LandRider Bicycle.
Mrs. Koehler graduated from BYU with a BS degree in Elementary Education. She just graduated in April from Grand Canyon University with a Masters degree in Educational Administration. Mrs. Koehler taught in Elementary School for 25 years. She has raised 3 children in West Jordan, Utah. In her spare time, she loves to read, do crossword puzzles, and explore the outdoors with her family.
Graduate of Weber State with a BS, composite major in Instrumental/ Choral Music and Education. MA from University of Phoenix in School Counseling. Taught Instrumental/ Choral music three years at North Sevier High School and Middle School Sevier School Dist.; Taught Instrumental Music thirteen years at West Lake Jr. High, four years at Granite High School and Granite Park Jr. High; Counselor at Brockbank Jr. High seven years. Hails from Cody, Wyoming. Wife of twenty five years; two children, daughter age 22 and son age 18. Lives in Murray.
A graduate of the U of U, BS in Psychology, MEd Administration, K12 Music certification. Ms McDonough has been at Brockbank for 22 years teaching Band, Orchestra, Guitar, Chorus, General Music, Percussion and Jazz Band. Lives in SLC in the 9th and 9th neighborhood where she and her family have been restoring a 113 year old house for the past 45 years. 6 sons, 1 daughter, and a Navajo foster daughter. 4 of her sons are married and she has 11 grandchildren. She plays percussion with the Salt Lake Symphony and spends her weekend time and summers gardening and preserving the produce. She and her husband are involved in their church, and have been actively involved in scouting, Little League Football, and their Neighborhood Council. She has been on the Tracy Aviary Advisory Board and has been a candidate for public office.
A graduate from the University of Utah with a BS in Health Promotion Education, and an ASS from Snow College. Mrs. Moore has taught Health and Keyboarding for 2 years at Brockbank Junior High School. She was raised in West Jordan. She lives in Layton with her husband Cole and puppy Tank. In her spare time she coaches the Brockbank Cheer Team and teaches clogging at a dance studio in Magna.
Mrs. Overson lives in our community and has taught Science at Brockbank for 22 years. She taught at Kearns Junior High for 5 years before joining us. She and her husband raised 4 children, who all attended Brockbank, and now enjoy their 5 grandchildren. Mrs. Overson graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS in Biology and completed endorsements in Special Education, ESL, and Integrated Science from various institutions. She is currently working on her Masters in Learning and Technology.
Mrs. Parker teaches reading and theater at Brockbank Junior High. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University (with a BA in speech and drama) and Utah State University where she received her master’s degree in Special Education and a reading endorsement. She lives with her husband Ralph in Taylorsville, Utah. She has 4 married children and seventeen grandchildren. She was raised in West Jordan, Utah and loves reading, theater, the outdoors, scuba diving and swimming.
This is Miss Roybal’s first year at Brockbank. She graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Elementary Education and taught 3rd grade for 6 years in West Jordan. She then received her Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah in May 2013. She was an intern assistant principal at West Lake Junior High last year. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, and spending time with her family. Miss Roybal is excited to be a part of the Brockbank staff this year!
Ms. Shafer has taught at Brockbank since 1988. She has a BA in teaching English and a major equivalency degree in teaching Spanish from the University of Utah, an endorsement for teaching the Gifted and Talented from Utah State University, an endorsement for teaching English as a Second Language from Weber State University, and a Masters of Science in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. In addition, she has taken courses on William Shakespeare and related history at Southern Utah University and Cambridge University in England. When she is not grading students’ essays, she enjoys writing fiction and traveling.
A graduate from Minot State University with a BS in Marketing, Ms. Sisson spent more than 10 years in the business world doing marketing, sales, human resources, and many other functions. This is Ms. Sisson’s first year at Brockbank Jr. She taught at Glendale Middle School in Salt Lake last year. She was raised in Magna and attended Brockbank as a student herself. She is excited to be back in her home town and contribute to the local community.
This is my 25th year of teaching and my 18 year at Brockbank. I am a graduate of Brigham Young University. I am married with 5 children and have 4 grandchildren.

Mrs. Van Winkle was born and raised in Ohio before moving to Utah in 1992. She received her BS.Ed. degree from Miami University in Elementary Education and her M.Ed. degree in Special Education. She received her Business Endorsement from THE Ohio State University and her Administration endorsement from the University of Utah. In Utah she has taught at Kennedy Jr. High and Eisenhower Jr. High. She was an Assistant Principal at Eisenhower and Principal at Bennion Jr. High before coming to Brockbank. Her hobbies include reading, hiking, swimming and watching all kinds of sports. Her greatest enjoyment comes from spending time with her grandkids.
Mr. Wagner is the most awesomeness teacher in the Universe, yes I said UNIVERSE and the reason I say that instead of the world is because who’s to argue against that? I mean when some teacher outside of our solar system decides to debate me on that issue than fine…..until then I stand with my original premises!!
