RISE Testing
Utah students in third through eighth grades take the RISE test, an acronym that stands for Readiness, Improvement, Success, and Empowerment. RISE testing will begin at Crestview the week of April 15 and ends on May 10. Classes will have varying schedules for the dates they test. Please look for emails and/or notes in planners for the dates your child will be testing or contact your child’s teacher. It is important that your child attends school and is on time during testing. Also, talk with your children about staying calm and performing their personal best on these tests. Children need to get plenty of sleep nightly, relax, and eat breakfast during the testing period.
Growth Mindset: The Power of “YET”
Think of the power of “YET” when children are discouraged and how this word impacts their persistence, perseverance, and ability to reach their goals. YET has been identified by the experts as a “potent little word that packs a great big punch!” What an amazing word for your children to have in their vocabularies! Just think, the word YET can turn a Fixed Mindset into a Growth Mindset just like this:
- I can’t read that! (Fixed Mindset) . . . to . . .
- I can’t read that, yet! (Growth Mindset)
YET offers possibilities and helps us all know that we have the ability and power to improve. YET is the carrot at the end of hard work and practice. Having a “can do” attitude will make your children UNSTOPPABLE! This month, curl up with a good book about the power of YET, like You Can Do It, Bert! by Ole Konnecke or The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau by Michelle Markel. And . . . when your children use the word “can’t” when referring to something they are trying to accomplish, remind them of the small but powerful word . . . YET!
End of the Year
As we come to the last seven weeks of school, we want to keep our students focused and learning. As a staff, we want to minimize behavior concerns and focus on enjoying the last weeks we get to spend together with each other and your children. The end of the year can be a challenging time, particularly for students. When the sun shines, hopefully soon, students become more active, excited for summer, and some become concerned about change. Please talk with your children about being strong finishers, focusing on school, change, and enjoying being with their peers and teachers at Crestview.
Learning Environment Request Forms are available at the office and are due Wednesday, April 12. An email was sent on March 4 titled Crestview: Learning Environment which explains more details of how class lists are created.
Principal’s Notes
I hope you all had a wonderful spring break, and the end of the school year is quickly approaching! Your children are amazing, flexible, and a joy to watch as they learn and grow. Thank you for your support and helping make Crestview an AMAZING school. I have truly enjoyed the relationships I have developed with you and your children. The teachers are incredible, and we are all lucky to be influenced by their dedication, commitment, and talents. Crestview is unique, and I appreciate all who contribute to making it a wonderful school for all!
This month we have many activities to support Crestview: The PTA fundraiser and Art Night, All Pro Dads, and Kindergarten Orientation. I appreciate the effort everyone has made to enrich your children’s experience at Crestview. I hope to see you all at these events!
PTA Corner – April 2024
April 25th is our annual PTA Fundraiser! You don’t miss this amazing community event! This year we will combine our PTA Fundraiser Night with the school Art Night. In the past, students have run laps to raise money for PTA sponsored school programs. This year we will have a read-a-thon where students can pledge to maximize their reading between April 10-24th and then raise funds for reading (more info about this will go home tomorrow)! On the night of the event, April 25th, we will also have our annual silent auction, concessions, student art on display, a make your own hat bar, a magician and even more FUN! But more than just being a community night of fun, this important fundraiser is what makes possible every single PTA thing at Crestview – Classroom grants, field trips, The School Play, Reflections, the Holiday Shop, etc. Please don’t miss this vital fundraiser that makes so much possible at Crestview!
