Parents/Guardians of Fremont Elementary,
Immediately after school today, one of our first-grade students was struck by a vehicle as he was leaving school property. While the student was alert after the accident, he was clearly injured and law enforcement had him transported to the hospital.
This incident serves as an unfortunate, but CRITICALLY IMPORTANT reminder regarding student and driver safety. While the accident is STILL under investigation, and while we don’t know what caused it, we would still encourage you to remind your child of the importance of using and following crosswalks and the directions of safety patrol. We would also encourage drivers in school zones to put down their phones and pay extra attention as young children are known for darting into traffic without warning. We anticipate following up your conversations at home with additional safety reminders at school tomorrow.
Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man and his family and we hope he will recover soon. We appreciate your support as we work to keep all children safe.
