The Granite Board of Education recently passed the Skyline Network’s grade reconfiguration proposal for the 2017-18 school year. This vote resulted in large measure because all the community councils in the network voted in favor. Those votes were informed by a rigorous period of sharing information and discussion and a professional survey that revealed the positive statistics supporting this change.
We are now preparing for the changes that will impact our students. The network principals are meeting to discuss the new schedules at Wasatch, Churchill, and Skyline and determine how to help our students transition to their new learning environment feeling supported and ready. We are carefully considering the impact on our traditional, dual immersion and Advanced Learning Center students. We believe with the terrific support our families provide and the talented teachers, staff and administration, we can make this work.
Congratulations to our new Community Council members who were recently elected with a record voter turnout. Jayme Blakesley, Stacia Cummings and Laurie Lorenzon will now join our council which also includes three new teacher members: Kristine Higby, Joy Ligett, and Christy Oaks. Many thanks to our outgoing members: Stephanie Buehner, Emeliee Dirks, Elena Leppard, Laurie Peterson, Sonja Aoki and Keri Vance. Our meetings are held the second Friday of the month at 1:45 PM in the library. Everyone is welcome.
This has been a fabulous start to the year. We make a great TEAM! Thank you.
