Welcome Back, Thunderbirds!!! We have many new faces and changes at Truman this year. We want to welcome all of our new staff and students. We are using new vocabulary as we learn about becoming a leader. We also have a new lunch procedure.
Our lunch schedule has changed slightly. As a faculty and staff we have been concerned about the number of problems on the playground at recess and the amount of wasted food in the lunchroom. We heard from some of our neighboring schools about a new way of structuring lunch that eliminated these problems. We went to see these schools last spring and were very impressed with how smooth their lunch schedule worked. So we decided to give it a try at Truman this year.
Basically, each grade level has their own lunch and recess time. Some (1,3,5) go to lunch first and then recess. The rest (2,4,6) go to recess first and then lunch. We have seen already that students are taking more time to eat and finishing more of their lunch. Students are able to either leave for recess or continue eating when dismissed. All students are given whatever time they need to finish their lunches just like before. If they finish early they can visit with friends until the lunch period is over.
We are still working through the transition but so far we feel that this new schedule is a win-win!
