The weather has turned bitterly cold. I have had questions about our procedures for this kind of weather. I would like to explain the details of our winter-weather plan.
The Community Council sets the standards for winter weather in regards to inside vs. outside days. Two years ago they deliberated extensively over this plan. Surveying many of our neighboring schools and following their lead, they decided to establish below 20 degrees (with the wind chill) as the temperature for a mandatory inside day. When temperatures dip to this level, the students are not given the option of going outside for recesses, and the south side of the multipurpose room is prepared for students to come warm up in the morning.
When temperatures are 20 degrees or above, we do not mandate an inside day, however, we will absolutely accommodate any family’s desire to have students stay inside. On days the temperature is over 20 degrees and you still want your student to be kept inside, please send a note, so we can best accommodate your request.
Make sure that you “begin with the end in mind” when sending your students to school. Layers and warm clothing is essential for this time of year. STAY WARM!!!
