I have been a Speech Language Pathologist for 15 years. I did my undergraduate degree in psychology and then after working at the Children’s Center for a number of years found my true calling in speech pathology. I got my Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Utah. This will be my 11th year here at Truman. When I am not working I am generally spending time with my family. I have 3 amazing children, ages 7, 15, and almost 20. We love to travel and camp in our trailer. I am an avid reader and love to escape into a great book. I love working with children and can’t imagine doing anything else. Every day students make me smile with their energy and enthusiasm.

I love kids! I have been a school psychologist for Granite School District for over 15 years working with children with various neurological and cognitive disorders, as well as emotional and behavioral issues. I enjoy working with teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve problems, big and small. It is very rewarding to watch children change and grow and to be an integral part of that process.
When I’m not spending my time with the students here at Granite School District, you can find me hiking, reading books, or playing the X-box with my own three kiddos or snuggled in the papasan with the latest copy of the New Yorker.

I have taught at Truman for several years and this year will be year one as the technology specialist! I am excited to learn more about technology and share this information with teachers and students. When I am not working, I enjoy archery and reading.

I was born in Taejon, South Korea and as a baby, I was adopted. I grew up in Highland, Utah and graduated from Lone Peak High School. I went to Utah State University for my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. After that, I moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan where I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University. I started working for Granite School District and Truman Elementary in 2015. I spend Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and every other Friday at Truman and spend the other days at West Lake STEM Jr. High. I am married and have two wonderful daughters. I love to play sports, especially basketball (Go Jazz!), volleyball, and golf.

School is one of my favorite places to be and I’m very proud to be an educator. This is my 15th year in teaching and my 4th year here at Truman. I taught 2nd grade for the majority of my career but I’ve also worked as a K-5 English Language Learner Specialist, 2nd Grade Science Specialist, K-3 Reading Interventionist, and for the last four years, I’ve worked as a School Literacy Coach. Every year is both challenging and exciting. As Truman’s School Literacy Coach, I work with teachers and students to improve literacy teaching practices and literacy skills. Literacy skills refer to reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I love being able to work with teachers and students with all things literacy! As for me, I grew up in Las Vegas but moved to Oregon shortly after graduating from high school. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Pacific University and a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Portland State University. I enjoy learning new things and finding ways to help all kids be successful. I have a wonderful husband named Kearby and three great kids – Kylie, Levi, and Mackenzie, and the coolest cat in the world – Hal. My family and I love being outside and stay busy by biking, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and surfing (when we can get to the beach). We are always cheering on our beloved Oregon Ducks and since moving to Utah, we’ve added the Utes to our list of favorite teams. We love living in Salt Lake City and I’m so glad to be at Truman Elementary! Stacie Shields
