Attendance, Absences, and Tardies
Please read and sign the Attendance Policy in your first-day folder. Parents may excuse absences up to seven days in a school year. More than seven days (or equivalent class periods) of excused absences within a school year are considered excessive and may require a doctor’s note to excuse subsequent absences. After fine or more days of unexcused absences within a school year, the school will initiate truancy notification procedures. If a student comes to school late, they must report to the office and pick up an admit slip. Please note, a student must be in attendance 4 (four) hours of a school day to receive credit for one full school day. Excessive tardies add up to days of instructional time lost, so a student who is habitually late when the total amount of time equals 10 days of school. Please notify the school office in advance, when possible, when your student is going to be absent.
Homework and Make-up Work
Each individual teacher will have different expectations regarding homework and make-up work. In order to adequately prepare students and maximize student achievement, the amount and intensity of homework will increase with each grade level, and the amount of time allowed to complete make-up work will decrease. It is the responsibility of each student, and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s), to know their teacher’s policy.
Medication
Medication administered to any student by school personnel must be accompanied by written parental consent and current written instructions from the student’s physician. Orders shall indicate the student’s name, medication, dose, route, time of administration, a statement that the medication is necessary during school hours, and any possible side effects and procedures to follow for severe reactions. The medications must be brought to the school in a labeled pharmacy container by an adult. Authorizations are required from both parent and health care provider for the self-administration of an asthma inhaler. Over The Counter medications need to have parent and physician forms in place as well.
