I was born in Sandy, Utah in a big sports-loving family. My family has softball, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and lacrosse players, as well as track and field athletes. It used to be a tie between softball and basketball, but now that I’m older (much older) swimming has become my favorite sport. In fact, swimming in the ocean is my dream vacation. My family is also involved in music, musical theater, and dance. It’s hard to keep up with all of the recitals, plays, musicals, and sports events going on every week! I am married to a wonderful (and very funny) guy. We have seven children and eleven grandchildren who are spread out all over the U.S. I graduated from Snow College (Associate degree), University of Utah (Bachelor’s degree), and Utah State University (Master’s degree) with an emphasis in gifted and early childhood education. I’ve taught fifth grade, second grade, kindergarten, and third grade. Third grade is my favorite grade to teach and I love being here at Westbrook!

Mrs. Anna-Lisa Glad has enjoyed 10 years of teaching in many different areas. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Brigham Young University – Hawaii. After teaching a year of High School, however, she had a change of heart and got a Master’s in Elementary Education from the University of New Mexico. She was born, bred, and married to Kevin Glad in Albuquerque. She has been in Utah since 2001 and loves everything except the cold! Her love of skiing makes up for that. She has four children (one older and three younger) that keep her plenty busy after school hours. And in her free time, she loves a capella singing competitively with a quartet and a women’s show choirs (Sweet Adelines). Pasta is her food of choice, chocolate always soothes the soul, and the color yellow always keeps her looking to the bright side of life. She loves the community at Westbrook and sees herself here for a very long time.

I graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. I have since completed an Early Childhood Endorsement from The University of Utah and an ESL endorsement from Weber State. I raised a family of seven children, and taught preschool in my home until my youngest child was in school. I then started substituting. I was substituting at Westbrook one day when the principal came to observe me. She called me out in the hall and offered me a job teaching Kindergarten. I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Third Grade and now Second Grade. I love teaching at Westbrook. On a personal note I have 13 grandchildren! I love camping, hiking, crocheting, watching old musicals and playing with my grandchildren. I love to read now but I didn’t as a child. As a teacher I hope to instill the love of reading into the lives of the children I teach. I look forward to associating with your children this year.

Although I may seem like a relative newcomer to Westbrook Elementary School, I actually began teaching here in 1985– three months after graduating from Brigham Young University. I loved working with the students, parents, and faculty members at Westbrook, which made leaving it to raise my children in 1989, a bittersweet experience. My stay-at-home mom years were filled with soccer games, scouting projects, dance lessons, and PTA meetings– with some wonderful travel adventures throughout the world mixed in. I returned to teaching in 2004, earned my Master’s degree in 2006, and found my way back to Westbrook two years later. I am thrilled to be back in this community– working with such great children, supportive parents, and committed colleagues–in a grade I adore. Fourth grade is “Education’s Best Kept Secret”. The curriculum is interesting and challenging, and the children are eager to learn. I hope this year will be a wonderful adventure for ALL of us!

My name is Miss Snider, and this is my sixth year at Westbrook Elementary. I graduated from Utah State University and then went to Taiwan to teach English. After Taiwan, I earned my teaching license and Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Western Governors University. My favorite subjects are reading, writing, history, and music. I love using writing and music to teach math and science. Aside from teaching, I love to play the piano and my other instruments, bake, travel, and act and sing in theater productions.

I have been in education for 21 years. I taught first grade for 12 years and was a staff developer for a different district for 4 years. One of the most fun parts of my career was teaching first grade students who struggled in reading to enjoy and be able to read. I did this with the Reading Recovery Program. I became a Reading Interventionist/Literacy Coach for 5 years in the Granite School District. I have been privileged to be at Westbrook either part or full time for all 5 of those years. I received my Bachelors of Education from BYU, sorry Ute fans. I have a Master of Education from Southern Utah University and I have four teaching endorsements which include English as a Second Language, Technology, Reading Level One, and Reading Level Two. The first three from Southern Utah University and the Level Two Reading from Utah State. When I was teaching first grade, I knew I needed to know more to be successful as a reading teacher. It was definitely worth it getting more education on the teaching of reading. I loved first graders and have since learned to love all the grades. All ages bring varied and interesting experiences to a classroom. I will have been married to my husband for 40 years on October 8 of this year, 2016. We have six children and 10 grandchildren. I love reading and I absolutely enjoy cooking. My favorite genre is cookbooks, and then historical fiction.
