Increasing reading fluency and comprehension is proven to have a great influence in all academic areas. For this reason, Academy Park has targeted reading skills as one of our three school goals, hoping to have 70% of our students at grade level on the end of year DIBELS assessment. This is a lofty goal, but we know with hard work on our part and your support at home it can be reached. Teachers require 20-30 minutes of home reading at least 5 nights per week, but I encourage reading every day. Our PTA has again promised a free carnival next Spring if we reach our goal of 1 ½ million (1,500,00) minutes reported. Students have monthly reading logs to complete and return with a parent’s signature. Rewards and prizes will be given monthly to students who return their log on time and to those who read over 1000 minutes each month. Working as a team, teacher-parent-student, we should reach our goal and have fun doing it! DON”T FORGET: Turn in your summer reading logs by the 13th. If you didn’t track pages, make a guess of how many pages you read, put your name and the number on a paper with a parent’s signature, and turn it in. Prizes will be given September 18th.
