Dear Parents and Patrons,
We are looking forward to seeing our Eagles back at Armstrong for the new school year! We know there are many questions regarding school and the Covid19 Coronavirus. We have received guidance from both the State Health Department and our District Directors. Below is the plan for Granite School District for this school year.

We will continue to follow recommendations from the Salt Lake County Department of Health throughout the school year. Thank you for sending your children to Armstrong!
2021-2022 Armstrong Plan at a Glance
Communication and training
- Teachers will be informed and updated concerning reopening protocol and action plans as soon as possible.
- Teachers will be trained on all current protocol in August training prior to school beginning.
- School-wide Covid Response Plans will be posted on school website and social media.
Accommodating Individual Circumstances
- Clear communication to parents/families if student is feeling any symptoms to stay home.
- Updated IEP/504/Healthcare Plans will be given to all homeroom teachers at the BOY and as needed throughout the school year.
School Schedules
- Teachers, Staff, and Patrons will be informed of school schedules via our school website, social media, and Blackboard messages. We will keep communication updated with current situations and guidelines.
Monitoring Incidents
- All Positive Covid cases and exposures will be reported to the State Health Department. School Nurse will assist, as needed.
Reporting Exposure
- Assigned seating in classrooms, hallways, lunchroom to identify contact tracing in the event of an exposure. These assignments are kept updated on school Google Drive document.
Mitigating Tactics for Specific School Settings
Classrooms
- Students will be assigned seating at tables and in line. These assignments will be kept updated on a school-wide Google Document for contact tracing, if necessary.
- Schools will remain mindful of safe spacing and cleanliness to the highest degree possible. Hospital grade air filtration and circulation (up to four times an hour) will continue.
- Drinking fountains will be turned off. We encourage all students to bring a water bottle to school that may be filled at the classroom tap and at the bottle filling stations located on each floor of the school.
Transitions
- Students and teachers are highly encouraged, but not required, to wear face coverings when indoors in the school.
- Students and teachers will walk on the right side of the hallway: “Second Tile, Single File” to help with traffic throughout the school.
- There will be sanitation stations available throughout the school for students and teachers to use throughout the day.
- Drinking fountains will be turned off. We encourage all students to bring a water bottle to school that may be filled at the classroom tap and at the bottle filling stations on each floor of the school.
Transportation
- All students riding District busses are highly encouraged, but not required, to wear a face covering while on the bus.
- There will be a designated area by student last name where parents can pick up/drop off (families can meet in the same place).
Restrooms
- The custodians will thoroughly clean the restrooms daily.
- Students will receive training on proper restroom hygiene.
Lunch/Cafeterias
- Food Service workers will continue cleaning the lunch tables regularly.
- The custodians will thoroughly clean the cafeteria daily.
- Teachers will create an assigned class line order and lunchroom table assigned seating. This will be updated on a Google spreadsheet available to administration and accessible to all teachers.
Large Group Gatherings (e.g. assemblies, performances)
- There will be minimal assemblies held at Armstrong during SY2021-2022.
- We will continue to disseminate helpful/necessary information through video, when possible.
Special Education, Related Services, or School Counseling (e.g. School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, etc.)
- Schools will remain mindful of safe spacing and cleanliness to the highest degree possible. Hospital grade air filtration and circulation (up to four times an hour) will continue.
Before/After Student Supervision
- Clear communication with parents/families that supervision, and therefore, ability to monitor on school grounds will only be available during staff contract hours: 8:20 – 3:30.
- The teacher, responsible adult, or staff member on duty will monitor playground area before and after school.
- Grade level and class lines will be designated around the school to minimize congestion and maintain social distancing to come into the school at the beginning of the day and exit at the end of the school day.
Drop Off/Pick Up Areas
- All students riding District busses are highly encouraged, but not required, to wear a face covering while riding the bus to and from school.
- There will be a designated area by student last name where parents can pick up/drop off (families can meet in the same place).
Front Office
- We welcome volunteers and community involvement back this school year, keeping in mind safety protocols and guidelines from the Health Department.
- Red Kiosk will be used for check-in/check-out to minimize touch points and contact.
- Those working in the front office will remain mindful of safe spacing and cleanliness to the highest degree possible. Hospital grade air filtration and circulation (up to four times an hour) will continue.
P/T or SEP Conferences
- SEP Conferences will be held in person this school year.
- P/T will be held in designated rooms in the school and will be held consistently to accommodate student IEP and/or Healthcare Plans.
- Teachers and Staff will remain mindful of safe spacing and cleanliness to the highest degree possible. Hospital grade air filtration and circulation (up to four times an hour) will continue.
Library/Media Centers
- Library Staff will remain mindful of safe spacing and cleanliness to the highest degree possible. Hospital grade air filtration and circulation (up to four times an hour) will continue.
- Class barcodes will be provided to ensure that students are not using touch pads.
IEP/Special Ed Meetings
- IEP/504 Meetings will be held in-person in the Conference Room.
- Teachers will remain mindful of safe spacing and cleanliness to the highest degree possible. Hospital grade air filtration and circulation (up to four times an hour) will continue.
Multi-Purpose Room
- The multipurpose room will be used again this year for PE.
Hallways
- Students and teachers are highly encouraged, but not required, to wear face coverings when inside the school building.
