{"id":2200434,"date":"2019-03-12T14:01:13","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T20:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/armstrong\/?page_id=2200434"},"modified":"2026-04-27T16:29:01","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T22:29:01","slug":"attendance-policy-and-procedures","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/armstrong\/attendance-policy-and-procedures\/","title":{"rendered":"Attendance policy and procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attendance Support Tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are tips to help students get to school on time:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Set a regular bedtime and wake-up time, with consistent morning and evening routines.<\/li><li>Choose clothes and prepare backpacks the night before.<\/li><li>Keep your child home only when truly sick, not because of anxiety or to care for younger siblings.<\/li><li>If your child is anxious about school, talk with the teacher or counselor.<\/li><li>Make back-up plans for days you are unable to get your child to school.<\/li><li>Schedule dental visits, doctor visits, and trips during non-school days or hours.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Granite School District Attendance Procedures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Student Attendance \/ Chronic Absentee Prevention Procedure Moratorium Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In keeping with our commitment to providing a quality education, schools are concerned when a student misses school for any reason. The mission of Granite School District is to prepare every student with the knowledge and skills needed for lifelong success in a changing world. Students who are excessively absent from school are not able to accomplish their educational goals. According to the Utah Compulsory Attendance Laws (Utah Code \u00a753-6-201 et seq.), parents\/guardians and students are responsible for regular school attendance. Occasionally, a student must be absent from school for acceptable reasons such as illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, pre-approved vacation leave, etc. Please call or send a note explaining the reason for your student\u2019s absence to your school\u2019s attendance secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In accordance with state law (Utah Code \u00a753-G-6-202 and 203), school administrators, school resource officers, and absentee specialists may issue an Attendance Inquiry to parents\/guardians of a student who is absent at least five times during the school year. An Attendance Inquiry directs parents\/guardians to contact school support personnel to discuss attendance issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">District attendance procedures are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Excusal notes must be received within ten (10) school days following the return from an absence; the school may deny excusal notes received after that point in time.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>After five (5) absent days within a school year, the school will mail the student\/parent\/guardian the First Attendance Inquiry letter notifying the student\/parent\/guardian of the attendance policy.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>After five (5) unexcused days within a school year, the school will mail the student\/parent\/guardian the Second Attendance Inquiry letter asking for the parent(s)\/guardian(s) help with their student\u2019s attendance.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>After ten (10) unexcused days of being absent within a school year, the school will mail the student\/parent\/guardian a Third Attendance Inquiry letter inviting the family to attend a Group Attendance Support Meeting hosted by a District representative.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>After fifteen (15) unexcused days of being absent within a school year, the school will mail the student\/parent\/guardian a Fourth Attendance Inquiry letter inviting the family to attend an Individual Attendance Support Meeting to implement a Student Attendance Plan.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>For secondary schools, missed periods will accrue into days of absences.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please check with the school attendance specialist\/secretary concerning excused or unexcused absences of your student. Your cooperation is needed in offering your student a quality education.
