Neil Armstrong Academy is a Pre-K through 5th grade elementary in the Highbury area of West Valley (5194 West Highbury Parkway) that is devoted to the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as the platform for instruction in the Utah Core Standards. Rigorous math and science curriculum content is practically applied to the design and construction of machines, devices, and other manufactured things representative of engineering and other career fields. Students at all grade levels have access to technology and mobile devices that enable them to individualize and demonstrate their learning through a variety of modalities. They participate in group projects and simulations in problem-based learning experiences and focus on developing the ability to think critically and solve complex problems.<\/p>\n
Neil Armstrong Academy has a boundary population of approximately 200 students and also serves over 300 students attending on open-enrollment permit. With the preschool program, Armstrong houses over 500 students.<\/p>\n
Improving academic mastery in science, technology, engineering, and math will be a key factor in ensuring the stability of economic growth and job creation in the country. STEM schools are designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills that are necessary to take up occupations that are becoming increasingly difficult to fill. With the demand for STEM workers expected to rise in the coming decades, students who receive project-based and experiential learning in preparation for the workplace will aid in keeping innovative organizations here in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Our school is named for the first man to walk the moon. Neil Armstrong, and all those involved with the Apollo missions, represents all of the elements of STEM being put toward a tremendous goal. Although he passed away in 2012, Armstrong\u2019s legacy will live on in the hearts of individuals worldwide. Neil Armstrong Academy is proud to carry his name as an example to all students of what is possible through perseverance, ingenuity, and courage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
