Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,
Remember there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow for students. CONGRATULATIONS on finishing up 3rd quarter! 4th Quarter will begin on Monday. We do have a full week of school next week before Spring Break. Please make every effort to have your students at school, CHROMEBOOKS CHARGED, and ready to go. We know it’s going to be a long week before the break, but we have work to do and 5 glorious days of school.
Shakespeare Day was a great experience, and I am so PROUD of how our students acted and behaved. They were outstanding. Also, a HUGE thank you to our PTSA for jumping in and being ready to help out on that day.
Our March Madness PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) is going strong…I think the current lead is a tie between our 7th and 8th grade. However, that could change today when the points for the week are added up. Remember, we are working every day to help your students learn how to model the “Viking Way” and show us they are Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. Continue to discuss these desired behaviors and expectations with your students.
Just a reminder…after we return from Spring Break we will begin an Intervention and Enrichment program that will be held on Tuesdays, within our scheduled school hours. We will focus on our three academic areas of math, science, and English. Teachers in these areas will identify students each week that need additional support, re-teaching, etc. and then work with them in small groups. For those students not involved in the intervention time, they will have the opportunity to participate in Enrichment activities with other teachers. These Enrichment activities will be assigned each week and students will rotate through a different group each week. We are beginning this program 4th term in order to support our students that may need a little extra help before RISE testing begins and to “work out any bugs” to begin the program in full, next year. Helping our students succeed is a top priority. We want to create both the time and the setting for our students to achieve at their best levels.
Have a great 3-day weekend!
Cottonwood Community Family Night
PLEASE save the date!!! Thursday, May 12th from 5-7 PM. We will be hosting our first annual Cottonwood Community Family Night. There will be games, bounce houses, performances, free dinner to the first 500 families, treats, and highlights on all of the amazing schools in our Cottonwood Network. Families are welcome and we truly hope to see you there! As more information becomes available, I will share.
Parent Volunteers
We are looking for parent volunteers to help us out during our 2 lunches! If your schedule allows for a couple, or even one day a week, we would LOVE your help. You would be able to help supervise and interact with students during lunch. Springtime brings warm weather and more kids that like to be outside. Having more eyes and helping hands is always a positive. In order to become a “volunteer” you must apply through the Granite School District Employment website. This posting will be available on MONDAY, MARCH 28TH and be open for 5 days. I realize this is a slight inconvenience, but we truly appreciate any volunteer support we can get at school! And…you get to hang out with really awesome kids during lunch.
Granite School District Boundary Study
Granite District will be hosting a number of open houses on the current boundary study that involves our area. The dates are as follows:

Congratulations to our wrestlers and Coach Johnson on their final week of wrestling. This group of students has continued to show up and work hard each day. We are so proud of all of your efforts and for representing Bonneville Junior High. Saturday, March 26th will be the District Wrestling Championship at Cottonwood High School and will begin at 7:30 AM. Good luck wrestlers. Please remember to show sportsmanlike conduct at all sporting events. We represent Bonneville Junior High during these events and it is important to uphold this example. Thank you in advance for being good patrons.

At Bonneville, we practice the “Viking Way.” Ask your students about our 3 R’s (Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn). The Viking Way is how we teach and model the expected behaviors we want our students to have in the school. As they model these behaviors, they are rewarded with Viking Points that can be redeemed at our Viking Store for prizes. We have created a space for you to donate prizes to the Viking Store at Amazon.com.

RISE Testing (End of Year Assessment 2022)
The RISE (Readiness, Improvement, Success, Empowerment) is the end of year Summative Assessment. This is the same test as the last few years. This year the test will be given during the testing window of March 28-May 27, 2022.
The RISE is an item-adaptive test meaning that if students correctly answer questions, the test gets more difficult and if students incorrectly answer questions the test gets easier. The RISE has depth of knowledge questions which require students to give written answers as opposed to only answering multiple choice questions. The RISE uses many onscreen tools.
We will spend some time at school preparing for this testing format so students become more familiar with the line of questioning and utilizing the tools. It will be helpful if you will also practice at home. To access the Practice tests from home use either a Firefox or Google Chrome browser and visit utahrise.org. Click on the Training/Practice test button. There are varying grade levels available to practice. It is wise for students to practice harder questions from higher grade levels to become more acquainted with the testing format and online tools.
While the results from this test are very important, it is only one measure of how students are progressing. Our school works extremely hard at keeping up with current educational trends so your children will be prepared for advanced levels of learning. We appreciate all your efforts as we know it takes a whole community to raise the future generation.
Thanks for your continued support!
GO VIKINGS!
