Principal’s Message 4.1.2022

April 1, 2022E. OwensAdministration

Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,

We made it to Spring Break! Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL next week and we will return on Monday, April 11th. Please be SAFE and enjoy a restful week. We wrapped up our “March Madness” for our positive behavior program and I am so proud of our students and their hard work to practice positive behaviors every day. Thank you to all the teachers and staff that helped to pull off this amazing event for our students. Our March Madness winners are the 7th Grade Students!!! Woo Hoo! They will have a “pizza reward” party the week we return from break.

When we return from Spring Break we will begin an Intervention and Enrichment program that will be held on Tuesdays, within our scheduled school hours. We will focus on our three academic areas of math, science, and English. Teachers in these areas will identify students each week that need additional support, re-teaching, etc. and then work with them in small groups. For those students not involved in the intervention time, they will have the opportunity to participate in Enrichment activities with other teachers. These Enrichment activities will be assigned each week and students will rotate through a different group each week. We are beginning this program to support our students that may need a little extra help before RISE testing begins and to “work out any bugs” to begin the program in full, next year. Helping our students succeed is a top priority. We want to create both the time and the setting for our students to achieve at their best levels.

Thank you for the continued support of Bonneville. I am so lucky to be a part of such a great community.

Cottonwood Community Family Night

PLEASE save the date!!! Thursday, May 12th from 5-7 PM. We will be hosting our first annual Cottonwood Community Family Night. There will be games, bounce houses, performances, free dinner to the first 500 families, treats, and highlights of all the amazing schools in our Cottonwood Network. Families are welcome and we truly hope to see you there! As more information becomes available, I will share.

Bonneville Beautification Volunteers

We have scheduled Friday, May 20th for our annual Bonneville Beautification. In cooperation with our amazing PTSA, our staff and students work to clean up our outside area, fill the atriums with fresh mulch, and help to make Bonneville look its very best. Paige Janzen will be leading these efforts and needs volunteers. We really need a volunteer with a large truck and trailer (with sides) to move mulch! PLEASE contact Paige at janfam97@gmail.com if you are able to help with this event.

Parent Volunteers

We are looking for parent volunteers to help us out during our 2 lunches! If your schedule allows for a couple, or even one day a week, we would LOVE your help. You would be able to help supervise and interact with students during lunch. Springtime brings warm weather and more kids that like to be outside. Having more eyes and helping hands is always a positive. In order to become a “volunteer” you must apply through the Granite School District Employment website https://www.applitrack.com/graniteschools/onlineapp/default.aspx?Category=Volunteer+-+School. This posting will close on Monday, April 4th. I realize this is a slight inconvenience, but we truly appreciate any volunteer support we can get at school! And…you get to hang out with really awesome kids during lunch.

Granite School District Boundary Study

Granite District will be hosting a number of open houses on the current boundary study that involves our area. The dates are as follows:

  • Monday, April 11th @ 7 PM (Cottonwood High School)
  • Wednesday, April 13th @ 7 PM (Granite Park Junior High School)
  • Monday, April 18th @ 7 PM (Olympus High School)

These meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Milk Supply Chain Issues

The District Office has asked schools to help communicate the difficulty we are seeing in milk supply in our schools. This is not occurring every day, but there are times that because of supply issues, we do not offer milk to students at lunch. We will continue to serve healthy options to students and appreciate your understanding and patience with the current supply chain issues.

Track

Track & Field starts Monday, April 11th. All students are welcome to join. Students should bring a water bottle and wear appropriate athletic clothing and shoes. Practices will be held after school from 3-4:00 pm. There will be a total of 3 track meets held on Wednesdays, followed by the district championships on Saturday, May 14th.  Contact Coach Tripp or Coach Saurer if you have any questions.

Bonneville PTSA

We are so lucky to have an amazing and involved PTSA here at Bonneville. There are some great opportunities to get involved this next school year. Below are some of the available “Board Chair” positions where support is needed. PLEASE reach out to Megan Woodward at 1234.woodward@gmail.com

Donate to our PBIS Amazon Wishlist! BONNEVILLE JR AMAZON WISH LIST Thank you for your generous support!

At Bonneville, we practice the “Viking Way.” Ask your students about our 3 R’s (Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn). The Viking Way is how we teach and model the expected behaviors we want our students to have in the school. As they model these behaviors, they are rewarded with Viking Points that can be redeemed at our Viking Store for prizes. We have created a space for you to donate prizes to the Viking Store at Amazon.com.
