Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,
The countdown has begun! In less than a week we will have your amazing students back in our building. I love this time of year and truly am looking forward to having kids back in the building. Teachers returned to work yesterday and have been working hard to be ready for the first day of school. I know that excitement, possible anxiety, and many other emotions are at the surface for both students and families as we prepare to begin another school year. If you have time over the next week, sit with your student and help them reflect on last year and what was positive and what was negative. Then, help them process that into how they can use those triumphs and lessons this year to move forward and start fresh. It’s pretty amazing when you take the time to make a list…very often, the “positive” outweighs the “negative.”
For those parents/guardians that are interested, we have some openings on our School Community Council. We meet as a group once a month and discuss items that impact our students and school. If you have any interest or availability to serve on our Council, PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY @ jjohnson@graniteschools.org
Also, with changes in our teaching staff WE NEED HELP WITH COACHES FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS SOCCER!!! Soccer season begins the second week of school and we need help! Please email me directly or contact the school. The season runs about 8 weeks…we are not looking for a full year of coaching…just about 2 months! PLEASE CONSIDER GETTING INVOLVED.
Thank you for being an incredible community and entrusting us with your students! ONE MORE WEEK!

Our district registration process is open and being done online. Even if you are a returning student, YOU MUST register every school year. Please see the attached document for information and instructions. If you need help, the school is open each day from 8-3.

PTSA
Thank you for the support of our PTSA! We encourage you to join if you have not already. Additionally, our PTSA is encouraging a “suggested activities donation” this year. This donation can be made at any time through the school webstore. This is completely OPTIONAL, but it will go 100% to our students! Megan Woodward is our amazing PTSA President this year and she is excited to be involved and help build our community at Bonneville! Megan’s e-mail is 1234.woodward@gmail.com If you are interested in volunteering, becoming a community partner, or know of businesses that are willing to be involved and donate…PLEASE E-MAIL HER!
School Pictures
Student pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, August 31st. Please watch for more information to be sent home with your student once school begins. Picture make-up day will be Friday, October 7th. It is not a requirement to purchase school pictures, but every student will take a school picture.
Lockers
Student lockers are optional this school year. They are not required and students will have the option to carry their backpack. However, if your student is interested in a locker, they will sign-up on the clipboard in the main office. Mrs. Chapman will need a couple of days to get the information entered into the system, but will then notify you by email with the locker assignment and combination. You are welcome to come in and do this before school starts and practice on your locker as much as you need to. You can also wait until school begins to sign up.
Bonneville Goals for 2022-2023
Our amazing teachers, counselors, and staff have returned to work this week. We have spent many hours preparing, planning, and learning from one another. We are working so hard to be ready for your students next week. Your students and their education are extremely important to us and we want to do our very best every day. Part of our work is to identify goals for our school. Each year our school leadership team, community council, and administration work to articulate our school goals and focus. These goals help drive our professional development, what we focus on with our students, and how we spend allotted money. We have 2 areas of focus for the 2022-2023 school year:
#1. Literacy, specifically improving reading levels for each grade on average by 5 points from the beginning of year assessment to the end of year assessment.
#2. Creating a sense of belonging at Bonneville where each student feels they have a connection with a trusted adult.
Please help to support and encourage these goals at home with your student. Your student’s success and happiness are extremely important to us and we will work diligently throughout the year to promote these goals.
School Lunch
Just a reminder…free school lunch will NOT be provided to all students this year. In order to qualify for free/reduced lunch you must apply at www.myschoolapps.com. Counselor Comments
With school beginning next Thursday, please note that counselors will not be making schedule changes on that first Thursday and Friday. We want students to attend their assigned classes. This does NOT include a hole in their schedule or an incorrect “level” of class. Counselors will work to make those adjustments quickly. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for a schedule change on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the next week. Counselors will then work quickly to try and help students make those changes. Please be patient and work with your counselor to address your student’s needs. Due to schedule constraints, we are not always able to provide students with their desired class or teacher. When requesting a schedule change, please note there are two types of changes: Required Schedule Changes and Elective Schedule Changes. Required Schedule Changes are the changes that need to take place to ensure that a student is getting a complete educational experience. Examples: Missing a required core class, not having a full schedule, etc. Elective Schedule Changes are the changes which a student may want but are not a result of a scheduling mistake or missing core class. Examples: Requesting a different teacher, requesting a different class period, changing elective classes, etc. Elective schedule changes are based on availability and not guaranteed. If changes are not made, please know that we tried but the schedule change was not possible.
