Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,
What a wonderful start to the beginning of the school year! Hopefully, you had a chance to talk with your students about the first few days of school. I can tell you, Thursday morning, welcoming students into the building was absolutely one of the best days I have had as an educator. Watching them walk up the sidewalk, welcoming them into the building, and cheering them on set the tone for the day. It was AWESOME! Please know that we are still working to adjust student schedules. Trying to juggle classes for 600+ students is a daunting task. There were multiple adjustments to schedules after students printed them at the beginning of registration and I apologize for that. We handed out many new schedules yesterday and on Monday, we will begin taking requests for schedule changes. I promise we work really hard to help your students get the classes they need and help them feel good about their schedule. There is not a perfect system, but help your students navigate through this by being positive.
I know the beginning of a new year always brings excitement and some nerves. As a parent myself, I am always hypersensitive to when my children begin another school year. I want to know everything and watch for the smallest changes in their moods and/or behavior. However, I always have to remind myself that change brings growing pains and adjustments and that sometimes, my role is to support my children in navigating these things. Both Mrs. Haider and I have had great conversations with so many of you this past week and I hope our efforts and time are felt and seen by you. We truly want Bonneville to be a welcoming place and we are working hard to teach these lessons to our students.
Please join us for BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24TH FROM 6-8 PM. This will be an “open house” style. You will have an opportunity to get involved with our PTSA and school events, meet teachers, tour the school, and grab a treat! Feel free to bring the whole family and see what Bonneville has to offer!
Thank you to those parents that have expressed an interest in School Community Council. The deadline for any final submission is Monday, August 22nd. Once the submission deadline passes, we will determine the number of candidates and hold a community vote if necessary. As a council, we meet as a group once a month and discuss items that impact our students and school. If you have any interest or availability to serve on our Council, PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY @ email@example.com
As always, I am moved by your support and kindness. Working with your students each day brings me absolute joy! If you want to see our “welcome back” message to students…here you go! https://youtu.be/_-NvvPbuqh4

I know school has begun, but as a reminder, students MUST register every year, even if they are a returning student. Our district registration process is open and being done online. The registration window will close on August 31st. Please see the attached document for information and instructions. If you need help, please come into the school.
Just a friendly reminder that yearbooks are NOT a part of regular student fees. Yearbooks must be purchased separately. Please contact our office or pay online if you would like to order a yearbook for this school year.
Thank you for the support of our PTSA! We encourage you to join if you have not already. Additionally, our PTSA is encouraging a “suggested activities donation” this year. This donation can be made at any time through the school webstore. This is completely OPTIONAL, but it will go 100% to our students! Megan Woodward is our amazing PTSA President this year and she is excited to be involved and help build our community at Bonneville! Megan’s e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org If you are interested in volunteering, becoming a community partner, or know of businesses that are willing to be involved and donate…PLEASE E-MAIL HER!
Student pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, August 31st. Please watch for more information to be sent home with your student once school begins. Picture make-up day will be Friday, October 7th. It is not a requirement to purchase school pictures, but every student will take a school picture.
Student lockers are optional this school year. They are not required and students will have the option to carry their backpack. However, if your student is interested in a locker, they will sign-up on the clipboard in the main office. Mrs. Chapman will need a couple of days to get the information entered into the system, but will then notify you with the locker assignment and combination.
Bonneville Goals for 2022-2023
Your students and their education are extremely important to us and we want to do our very best every day. Part of our work is to identify goals for our school. Each year our school leadership team, community council, and administration work to articulate our school goals and focus. These goals help drive our professional development, what we focus on with our students, and how we spend allotted money. We have 2 areas of focus for the 2022-2023 school year:
#1. Literacy, specifically improving reading levels for each grade on average by 5 points from the beginning of year assessment to the end of year assessment.
#2. Creating a sense of belonging at Bonneville where each student feels they have a connection with a trusted adult.
Please help to support and encourage these goals at home with your student. Your student’s success and happiness are extremely important to us and we will work diligently throughout the year to promote these goals.
Just a reminder…free school lunch will NOT be provided to all students this year. In order to qualify for free/reduced lunch you must apply at www.myschoolapps.com. Also, if you would like to pre-pay for school meals please visit www.paypams.com to create an account or add money to your existing account.
