Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,
We have officially completed our first full week of school for the 2022-2023 school year! It has been busy and exciting, and I couldn’t be happier to be at Bonneville. It was so wonderful to see so many families and students at our Back to School Night! Thank you to our amazing PTSA for their support and thank you to so many of you that signed up to help support Bonneville Activities this year! Today was our PBIS Friday…which means our students spent time today learning about the behavior expectations at our school. As we know, behavior is just as important as academics and at the junior high level, teaching students how to interact with their peers is crucial. Take some time this weekend to ask your student about our “Viking Way.” Challenge them to tell you the 3 R’s!
This is just a reminder to please be cautious and aware during drop-off and pick-up. We are having some issues with parking on the east side of the school next to the bus zone. PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE EAST SIDE IN THE SPACE BETWEEN THE BUS PULLOUT AND THE STOP SIGN. You will need to pull into the parking lot. Our buses cannot pullout and we are seeing the potential for an accident. Also, do NOT park along the road on Gurene Drive. This is a “no parking” zone from 12-3 PM. When our buses turn east to leave the school there is not enough room for them. Finally, our school is in such a beautiful location right in the middle of a neighborhood! Again, please watch your speed as you travel to school. Slow down, stay aware, and remember that there are lots of students out in the morning trying to get to school. STAY SAFE!
I’m excited to announce that our new theatre teacher, Mr. Sase, has started this week! Please welcome him to Bonneville and show your support. We will have auditions for the fall play on September 8th after school. More information will come, but please see Mr. Sase with your questions.
Just yesterday we received updated guidelines on how to work with positive Covid cases. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENTATION FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR GUIDANCE. If your student if feeling sick whether it is Covid or not, please keep them home to get well. Also, please make sure you are contacting Mrs. Erickson, our attendance secretary, at 385-646-3105 to excuse ALL absences.
Kindness Week at Bonneville is here! As we all start the school year, this is the best time for us to focus on how we can be kind to each other. We’ll learn and celebrate together with spirit dress up days, lunch activities, advisory lessons, and daily challenges. We hope all our students join in the fun. See the attachment for more information on our spirit dress up days.

Please remember to represent Bonneville well and be good sports and spectators at intramural events.

Student pictures are scheduled for this Wednesday, August 31st. Information should come home with your student either today or Monday. Picture make-up day will be Friday, October 7th. It is not a requirement to purchase school pictures, but every student will take a school picture.
Homecoming Dance
We will have our first school dance next Thursday, September 1st from 3-4 PM. This is an activity for ALL students. Students are welcome to stay after school and participate in the activity. There is no “dress” requirement, and this is meant to be a fun, after school activity for students.
Bonneville Week of Connection
Parents, please join our “Week of Connection” team! Research is showing that one of the most critical components to solid mental health and preventing both suicide and addiction is connection. This year we’re revamping Red Ribbon and Suicide Prevention Week to focus more on what our students CAN do to stay healthy and safe: create and maintain positive connections with others.
Our “Week of Connection” will be held at the end of October. Join us on Thursday, September 1st at 11am at Bonneville to learn how you can help us make it a great week.
Please contact our school Social Worker, Saydi Shumway at sshumway@graniteschools.org to get involved or if you have questions.
Panorama Student Survey
Students are important partners in our efforts to improve our communication, academic programs, and overall educational experience. In order to learn more about what our students need in order to thrive, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via an online survey that will be completed at school. Our students’ feedback will provide valuable insight into their experiences and help our district adapt to current needs.
*The survey will ask students to self-reflect on their social skills, dispositions, and emotions, as well as the support that they receive in and outside of the classroom. You can preview the survey content using the links below:
· Skills and Dispositions: Grades 3-5
· Skills and Dispositions: Grades 6-12
· Supports and Environment: Grades 3-5
· Supports and Environment: Grades 6-12
*The survey will take no more than one class period to complete. We will actually use Enrichment/Intervention time on Tuesday, September 6th to complete the survey. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, or doesn’t wish to answer, they will be able to skip the item altogether. Educators who work with your child will be able to see their self-reported areas of strength and areas for growth. We are partnering with a third-party vendor (Panorama) to support us in administering these surveys.
*If you do not want your child to participate, you must notify the school by September 2nd in writing. You can send a note with your student or send an email to jjohnson@graniteschools.org stating that your student will not participate in the survey.
*We thank you in advance. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 385-646-5124.
School Community Council
Thank you to those that submitted their declaration of candidacy for our School Community Council. The voting will begin on Monday, August 29th and close at midnight on Wednesday, August 31st. I will send a follow up email on Monday morning to begin the voting process.
School Dismissal Times
This is just a reminder, Monday through Thursday school ends at 2:45. On Friday, school ends at 12:30. Please plan accordingly to pick students up in a timely manner.
Counselor Comments
The schedule change request form is now closed. Thank you for being patient as school counselors are working through schedule change requests.
Are you wondering what else school counselors do in schools besides schedule changes? Watch this video of Mrs. Wood explaining how school counselors help students and families: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K78KtkUAsqc&t=18s
6th Grade College and Career Readiness Plan (CCRP) meetings with students and parents will start in the middle of September. College and Career Readiness Plans are an opportunity for school counselors to sit down with you to talk about how the transition to junior high school is going, look at grades, discuss any concerns, share important information and start planning for the future. Look out for more information in the coming weeks.

Yearbook Purchase
Just a friendly reminder that yearbooks are NOT a part of regular student fees. Yearbooks must be purchased separately. Please contact our office or pay online if you would like to order a yearbook for this school year.
PTSA
Thank you for the support of our PTSA! We encourage you to join if you have not already. Additionally, our PTSA is encouraging a “suggested activities donation” this year. This donation can be made at any time through the school webstore. This is completely OPTIONAL, but it will go 100% to our students! Megan Woodward is our amazing PTSA President this year and she is excited to be involved and help build our community at Bonneville! Megan’s e-mail is 1234.woodward@gmail.com If you are interested in volunteering, becoming a community partner, or know of businesses that are willing to be involved and donate…PLEASE E-MAIL HER!
Bonneville Goals for 2022-2023
Your students and their education are extremely important to us and we want to do our very best every day. Part of our work is to identify goals for our school. Each year our school leadership team, community council, and administration work to articulate our school goals and focus. These goals help drive our professional development, what we focus on with our students, and how we spend allotted money. We have 2 areas of focus for the 2022-2023 school year:
#1. Literacy, specifically improving reading levels for each grade on average by 5 points from the beginning of year assessment to the end of year assessment.
#2. Creating a sense of belonging at Bonneville where each student feels they have a connection with a trusted adult.
Please help to support and encourage these goals at home with your student. Your student’s success and happiness are extremely important to us and we will work diligently throughout the year to promote these goals.
School Lunch
Just a reminder…free school lunch will NOT be provided to all students this year. In order to qualify for free/reduced lunch you must apply at www.myschoolapps.com. Also, if you would like to pre-pay for school meals please visit www.paypams.com to create an account or add money to your existing account.
