Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,
REMINDER…we do not have school tomorrow, Friday, September 23rd or Monday, September 26th. We will welcome students back into the building on Tuesday, September 27th. Thank you to all that attended Parent Teacher Conferences this week. It was a great opportunity to interact with so many students and families. Please remember that you do not need Parent Teacher Conferences to talk with a teacher. Please reach out through email or a phone call to discuss your student’s learning at any time. Education is a collaborative effort and we are here to discuss and communicate.
Bonneville Junior has partnered with Granite District Food Services to provide free breakfast for ALL STUDENTS this school year. The cafeteria opens at 7:15 AM and any student can eat. We ask that students remain in the cafeteria to finish their breakfast.
PLEASE remember to call or email Mrs. Erickson to excuse your student’s absence each day. You can call 385-646-3105 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Student attendance is crucial and having your students in class, on time every day is important to us. This year Granite District has put a stronger focus on attendance and promoting that “Every Day Counts.” Please see the attached updated attendance procedures outlined by Granite School District.
We truly enjoy having your students in the building and being a part of their educational process. Your support is invaluable to us. Please continue to help your students CHARGE THEIR CHROMEBOOKS EVERY NIGHT AND BRING THEM TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY. We utilize them nearly every day and it is so helpful when they are prepared and ready to go.

This year Bonneville Junior High School is holding its annual Vehicle Day activity for 200 of our 6th grade students on Thursday, October 6th from approximately 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
We are so excited for our upcoming annual career event, Vehicle Day. Vehicle Day is a unique college and career awareness activity that teaches our students about different careers in a fun, interactive way. During this day we line the south parking lot with vehicles that represent a variety of different fields and have students rotate in groups to each vehicle to learn about careers related to it. In the past, for example, we have had police cars, fire trucks, hearses, city vehicles, professional athlete’s cars, construction machines, big rigs, and news vans.
We are still looking for more vehicles to join our event. If you are interested in displaying your career’s car and sharing with our students about your industry, please email Mrs. Stacy Wood at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please also email if you would like to volunteer for our event. We need about 5 parent volunteers to help chaperone groups of students around the parking lot.

Bonneville Highlights and Goals for 2022-2023
As part of our continual improvement process as a school, we take time yearly to reflect on our school’s data and identify areas of strength. The following 5 areas were identified for Bonneville Junior High:
- Bonneville is consistently above the district average in all core areas of the RISE Assessment.
- 8th grade core classes are nearly double the district averages for 2021-2022.
- Reading Growth Measure showed an increase in performance for students in all grade levels.
- 8th grade English and Science both identified as “Pandemic Resilient” in RISE Assessment data through COVID conditions.
- Academic areas that utilized a Benchmark Assessment, growth occurred from pre to post-test in every subject.
We also use this data to identify goals for our school. Each year our school leadership team, community council, and administration work to articulate our school goals and focus. These goals help drive our professional development, what we focus on with our students, and how we spend allotted money. We have 2 areas of focus for the 2022-2023 school year:
#1. Literacy, specifically improving reading levels for each grade on average by 5 points from the beginning of year assessment to the end of year assessment.
#2. Creating a sense of belonging at Bonneville where each student feels they have a connection with a trusted adult.
Please help to support and encourage these goals at home with your student. Your student’s success and happiness are extremely important to us, and we will work diligently throughout the year to promote these goals.
Thank you for the support of our PTSA! We have so much appreciation for those that have donated for this year.
