Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,
This message is coming early this week because today is the LAST day of school for students this week! There is no school from Thursday, January 12th-Monday, January 16th. Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 17th. Please see the “New Schedule Access” instructions that are attached to this email. Students can access their classes in the portal, through gradebook. We will NOT be printing out paper schedules. When students return on the 17th, it will be the beginning of 3rd quarter and we are officially halfway through the school year.
As we gear up for the second half of the year, we have many activities, events, and learning opportunities for our students. PLEASE focus on attendance and helping your student get to school every day. We want them at school and we know that attendance has a long-term impact on learning and achievement. Please make this a priority and let’s finish the second half of the year strong.
Enjoy the extended weekend and stay safe!
Viking Night
Viking Night is Wednesday, January 18th from 6-8 PM. Viking Night welcomes our “Future Vikings” and all incoming elementary students and families are invited. See attached flyer for details.

Panorama Survey
Students are important partners in our efforts to improve our communication, academic programs, and overall educational experience. In order to learn more about what our students need in order to thrive, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via an online survey that will be completed at school. Our students’ feedback will provide valuable insight into their experiences and help our district adapt to current needs.
*The survey will ask students to self-reflect on their social skills, dispositions, and emotions, as well as the support that they receive in and outside of the classroom. You can preview the survey content using the links below:
- Skills and Dispositions: Grades 3-5
- Skills and Dispositions: Grades 6-12
- Supports and Environment: Grades 3-5
- Supports and Environment: Grades 6-12
*The survey will take no more than one class period to complete. We will actually use Enrichment/Intervention time on Tuesday, January 24th to complete the survey. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, or doesn’t wish to answer, they will be able to skip the item altogether. Educators who work with your child will be able to see their self-reported areas of strength and areas for growth. We are partnering with a third-party vendor (Panorama) to support us in administering these surveys.
*If you do not want your child to participate, you must notify the school by January 18th in writing. For those that “opted out” in the fall, your request will still be honored and you do NOT need to send another notification. You can send a note with your student or send an email to jjohnson@graniteschools.org stating that your student will not participate in the survey.
*We thank you in advance. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 385-646-5124.
