Hello Viking Students and Parents/Guardians,
We have started to settle into the new semester and students are working hard. Our amazing counselors have nearly completed all the schedule changes and are just trying to meet with the last few students. Thank you for your patience as this is a busy time of year for our counselors. I want to celebrate and congratulate our students that earned a 3.00 GPA or higher for Quarter 2. On Thursday, we celebrated our “Good Grades Party.” Our wonderful PTA surprised our students with hot chocolate and giant cookies! We had 270 students earn a 3.00. This is fantastic! Please continue to encourage and support your students to do their very best work and excel each day at school.
SPIRIT WEEK BEGINS ON MONDAY! This is one of the BEST weeks of the whole year. We encourage students to get involved and show their “Viking Pride” all week. Our SBOs have been working hard to plan activities. Dress up days are as follows:
*Monday “Dress to Impress”: Wear nice/fancy clothes.
*Tuesday “Disney Duo Day”: Dress as your favorite Disney duo.
*Wednesday “Color Wars”: 8th Grade/Purple; 7th Grade/Yellow; 6th Grade/Gray.
*Thursday “70’s Day”: Dress in 70’s clothes.
*Friday “Freaky Friday”: Teachers dress as students and students dress as teachers.
A couple of friendly reminders…students are NOT allowed to have Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. deliver food to them during the school day. Bonneville Junior High is a closed campus and by placing these orders, we are inviting individuals onto our campus and into our school that are unknown. There have been a couple of incidents where a delivery driver is wandering around our school trying every locked door to enter the building. This is not a safe practice. As a parent, if you want to personally deliver food to your student, please enter the building, check-in with the office and leave the food. On February 2nd, we will have our Spirit Week Dance after school from 3-4. As with past dances, there is an attendance requirement for students to participate. Starting Monday, January 23rd, students CANNOT HAVE MORE THAN 5 TARDIES leading up to the dance to be eligible to attend. Being on time to class is an expectation at Bonneville.
Thank you for all you continue to do. Have a fantastic weekend!
Parent Teacher Conference Sign-ups
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Tuesday, February 7th (ZOOM) and Wednesday, February 8th (IN-PERSON) from 4:00-7:00 PM. The sign-up for these conferences will be open on February 1st-6th. I will send out a more detailed email with instructions prior to February 1st.
Happy Chinese New Year
Happy Chinese New Year! XIN NIAN KUAI LE. This year is the year of the rabbit. Our DLI Chinese students designed their own greeting cards representing the zodiac and the year. Come and pick your favorite design in the link!
Mark Your Calendars!
On Thursday, February 9th from 6:30-7:30 PM, Bonneville will be hosting a “Safe Technology and the Impacts on Mental Health” night at our school. We have partnered with Granite District Communications Office and the Family & Community Engagement Center for this event. We would like to invite all our Bonneville families and any feeder elementary schools. Please look for further information and spread the word!
SHARP Survey
The Department of Health and Human Services is conducting the Student Health and Risk Prevention (SHARP) Survey. Your child’s class may be selected to participate in this survey. 6th and 8th Grade students have been selected and are asked to complete ONE questionnaire, the Prevention Needs Assessment (PNA) Survey in February 2023.
The Prevention Needs Assessment (PNA) Survey measures alcohol, tobacco, and drug use; the factors that place students at risk for problem behaviors; the factors that protect students from problem behaviors; and basic demographics. Information gained from the survey will allow your school district and the State of Utah to continue to provide comprehensive prevention programs for our schools and children.
According to Utah law, students’ parents must give their permission before the student can participate in the survey. You need to be aware that:
(1) Your child’s participation is completely voluntary and confidential.
(2) If your child does not participate, they will not be penalized or lose any school benefits to which they are otherwise entitled.
(3) Your child may discontinue the survey or skip any or all questions on the survey without penalty or loss of any school benefits to which he or she is otherwise entitled.
The surveys are being administered by our school district during one class period and will take about 45 minutes to complete. All responses will be completely anonymous and confidential. Results will be reported for groups of students; because the survey is anonymous, responses cannot be linked to any individual student. Additionally, the anonymous survey data may be shared with respected researchers in the United States to aid in prevention planning. If you have any questions or would like to review copies of the surveys, please ask a school official at your child’s school or visit the following web address: http://www.bach-harrison.com/surveyforms.aspx?index=2.
Please complete the permission form for your student. Thank you for supporting us in this effort.
