As most of you are aware, we recently had an accident impacting our school wherein a student was struck in the crosswalk. While traffic safety falls under the authority of our city, they have installed this pedestrian bridge to address the bulk of these concerns.
We have reemphasized using the pedestrian bridge to our students and community as a whole, but want to also provide supervision of that area by having an adult volunteer direct pedestrian traffic to the bridge and ensure that students do not attempt to cross the road directly.
We need your support and assistance in initiating this supervision. We are asking for a parent volunteer to supervise both in the morning 30 minutes prior to the start of school and 30 minutes after (8:10 – 8:40 am and 3:20 – 3:50 pm). This can be done by multiple volunteers who sign up for one or more shifts. If we had ten volunteers, each one could take one time slot a week.
This would be a great help to our students and their safety as they travel across this busy roadway. If you are able to assist, even just once a week, please email@example.com or call the front office at 385-646-5020. We hope to kick off this effort as soon as possible.
If you have other ideas to improve student safety, I encourage you to contact me or a member of our school community council. Here are our members – Brandy Seaman firstname.lastname@example.org Lindsay Cottrell email@example.com , Kimberley Dean firstname.lastname@example.org , or Kristen Logan email@example.com .
The school community council is responsible for creating safe walking routes which are then given to local law enforcement and the city as they implement traffic safety measures.
Thank you in advance for your support of our students and school.
