{"id":425,"date":"2013-02-12T14:19:51","date_gmt":"2013-02-12T21:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/calvinsmith\/?page_id=425"},"modified":"2025-03-05T12:19:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T19:19:19","slug":"about-calvin-smith","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/calvinsmith\/about-calvin-smith\/","title":{"rendered":"About Calvin Smith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><b>School Background<\/b><br \/>Calvin Smith Elementary is located in the south central area of Granite School District.\u00a0 It was built in 1979 to serve the growing population of the Bennion area.\u00a0 Calvin Smith is mainly a walking school, but busing is provided for students living in our boundaries east of Redwood Road and in the Harvey Heights neighborhood.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Enrollment<\/b><br \/>Smith Elementary serves approximately 506 students from kindergarten through fifth grade.\u00a0 We also house one preschool classroom.<br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Computers and technology\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">All classrooms are equipped with ceiling mounted LCD projectors and a sound system.\u00a0 All students have a Chromebook to use in class and SMARTboards or Boxlights are used in classrooms to enhance student learning.\u00a0 Our Technology Coach is in the building for support 10 or more days each month.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Chinese Dual Language Program<br \/><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Calvin Smith is one of two schools in Granite School District that offers the Dual Chinese Language Program starting in first grade. Those interested in this program must apply through Granite School District.
