Principal’s Message November 20, 2018 Land Trust Final Report: Each year, I am responsible for publishing a final report summary for what Churchill Jr. High did with our Land Trust money. Last year, we received $58,400 from the Land Trust. The school’s community council works with me in establishing a goal and an action plan for accomplishing the goal and spending our allotted money. I am always appreciative of the time and thoughtful consideration given by the members of the community ...

Principal’s Message October 26, 2018  Science SAGE: The state released Science SAGE results last week, and Churchill did well. Sixth graders were 67% proficient and above, 7th grade was 57%, and 8th grade was 60%. This gives the school a 62% overall proficiency score. That is up from 49% the year before. So, once again, we made great strides by increasing 13% overall in science. Churchill finished second in Granite District in Science SAGE. Joined with our number one finish in English, ...

Principal’s Message October 5, 2018  Social Media: A few times a year I mention social media in this newsletter. Usually when I’m mentioning it, it’s because we are seeing an increase in issues at school that are the result of things going on with social media. Such is the case right now. We are seeing an increase in issues resulting from student use of social media. Students are going back and forth insulting and making fun of each other and they are using texting as well as social ...

Principal Message – September 17, 2018

September 17, 2018Principal's Message

Settled In: We have reached the point in the school year where the kids and teachers seem to have really settled in to their routines. I have been out and visiting classrooms and it’s fun to see the things happening with student learning. Teachers and kids have jumped into cool things and are working on experiments and projects already. We have both of our Charger Times up and running now. Thursday Charger Time is time for student remediation. Teachers submit lists of students to the ...

August 24, 2018Principal's Message

First Week: We have had a busy first week of school, and students seem to be getting settled. Each day, we have less kids looking lost, less kids having troubles with lockers, and less kids being late to classes. Next week we will begin playing the one-minute music between classes so students have an auditory warning that the bell will be ringing. We hold off on the music for the first week because it only increases student anxiety and stress when they’re trying to figure out their lockers. ...

Principal’s Message August 15, 2018  Welcome Back: School begins Monday morning at 7:45am. It has been great seeing so many students and their families come through the school in the past week or so. We have had a majority of schedules picked up, but if you haven’t taken the chance to come by yet, please do so. It will be important for students to have their locker information for the first day of school. We will be conducting Jump Start for the sixth graders on Monday. We would like ...

November 21, 2017Principal's Message

May 22, 2018 End of School Year Information: We are reaching the end of what has been a great school year. There were a lot of changes this year with bringing in the sixth graders and changing our school schedule to a seven period day. For the most part things have gone very well. We have the students to thank for that; they have been great to work with this year. Parents also need a thank you because you have supported your students and the school as we’ve changed things up. With the ...
