Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We are thrilled to begin this year and challenge your children to learn and explore new things. I would like to extend a special welcome to all of the new families joining our Cottonwood family this year and welcome back all of our returning families! I am truly honored to be your principal. The mission and vision of Cottonwood Elementary is to facilitate high levels of learning for all students! My vision, as the principal, is to always put students first! My belief is that all students can learn. As educators, we discover how each child learns in order to differentiate our instruction to support all learning styles. My hope is that all children will LOVE school and learn in a positive, safe, warm, caring , fun, and engaging classroom.
I believe that education is a joint partnership with our parents. It truly does take a village and at Cottonwood we value teamwork and collaboration. We greatly appreciate the support you provide your children at home in helping them meet their learning goals at school.
There may be a few things you are wondering about before we get started on August 18th:
1. Who is my child’s teacher? After you complete your online registration through your Granite Portal account, you can click on schedules and see who your child has for their teacher this year. Due to protection and privacy for all, class lists will not be posted.
* Some families, due to a programming glitch, were able to log on and see who their child’s teacher is before the registration window opened. It is extremely important that all families register their children and sign off the requireddocumentation forms. Please be sure to complete your registration process by August 5th. Students who do not have completed registration may be held out of some school events/activities until these forms are completed.
2. Can we come to the school and see the classroom and meet the teacher before school starts? Yes, we will be holding a “Meet Your Teacher” open house on Wednesday, August 17th from 4:00-5:30.
Whether you are new to Cottonwood or returning, we encourage all of our families to stay connected with us through our website and social media pages. You will find that MOST information will be sent home electronically this year. Watch for “CW eBlast” emails. Be sure our office (and your teachers) have your current email addresses on file. Please bookmark our website, http://schools.graniteschools.org/cottonwood. A lot of questions can be answered through our wonderful website! Be sure to follow and subscribe to our social media sites: Instagram and YouTube. You can access links to these sites from our website. This year, we will be debuting our weekly Cottonwood Broadcasting System (CBS) News on our YouTube page! It will be full of weekly information as well as a “Whip-Around” of the past. Also, every teacher has a website designed to help you and answer questions that you may have. You can find links to teacher sites by visiting Cottonwood’s website.
Thank you for your support in being partners in education. We believe that a love of learning, high academic achievement and parental involvement are keys to a lifelong education. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher with questions, comments, and kudos.
Go CONDORS!
Love,
Mrs. Cooper
