This is a critical step to ensure students are on track for graduation and prepared for their future, whether that involves college, careers, or other aspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CHS Counselors<\/strong> play an essential role in guiding students through this process. Counselors visit students in their English or Social Studies classes to provide key information about choosing the right courses. It is highly recommended that students review their options with a parent or guardian to make thoughtful decisions about their academic path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is the timeline and detailed process for selecting courses for the 2026-2027 academic year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timeline for Course Selection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 1: Initial Course Selection (January 26th-27th)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who:<\/strong> All 9th-11th grade students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Where:<\/strong> Social Studies classes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What to Expect:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Counselors will visit Social Studies classes to distribute the following:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Course Selection Cards<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Review Focus Grad Requirement tabs<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grade-specific instructions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will receive guidance on:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How to fill out the Course Selection Card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identifying required courses for graduation using the Grad Req tab on Focus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choosing core and elective classes that align with their goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the last 10 minutes of class, counselors will meet individually with students to address questions about PTGs and graduation requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Students will enter their course selections into Focus at home or during Homeroom on February 2nd &amp; 3rd (if not already done) <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Absent Students:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For students who miss class, Course Selection Cards will be returned to the counselor\u2019s office and provided to homeroom teachers the following week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Absent students must complete the selection process in their homeroom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 2: Review and Lock-In (Feb. 4th and 5th)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who:<\/strong> 9th and 10th grade students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Where:<\/strong> History classes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What to Expect:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students will review their course selections with counselors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Final course requests will be locked in <strong>Focus<\/strong> (the school\u2019s course management system).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 3: Finalization for Juniors (February 11th &amp; Technology &amp; Engineering, Information Technology, Biotechnology, Culinary arts, Aviation, Agriculture and Home Building\/Construction. The GTI provides classes in 2-period blocks only due to traveling time.
