{"id":11284,"date":"2026-03-19T12:38:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T18:38:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/cottonwoodhigh\/?page_id=11284"},"modified":"2026-09-11T09:01:21","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T15:01:21","slug":"award-for-excellence","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/cottonwoodhigh\/counseling-center-2\/all-things-graduation\/award-for-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards &amp; Diplomas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Valedictorian &amp; Salutatorian Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>-Cumulative GPAs for seniors are pulled during the first two weeks of Q4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any grade changes or replacements made by a student wanting to be considered for Valedictorian or Salutatorian MUST be completed and recorded by the start of Q4.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>-All candidates must have a 4.0 GPA to be eligible. In the event no students have a 4.0, the next highest GPAs will be considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-After GPA, the deciding factor will be the number of semesters of AP and CE classes. No semester will be counted if the class wasn\u2019t fully completed (i.e. a full semester of a CE class or a full year of an AP class).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-In the event of a tie, the highest ACT score of each candidate will be the tiebreaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senior Awards Night<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>-We want to recognize your incredible efforts! Students who meet the requirements are invited to a special awards ceremony each spring before graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2026 Senior Awards Night = Monday, May 18th from 6-7pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>-Did you miss the Senior Awards Packet Presentation done on 4\/13 during Homeroom (by invitation only)? See Ms. Calton for details or view the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/design\/DAFdMJTRey8\/zHsIofqx0suTttgYF6cHlQ\/edit\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/design\/DAFdMJTRey8\/zHsIofqx0suTttgYF6cHlQ\/edit\">Senior Awards Packet Presentation Slides<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Senior Awards Packet is due by the end of the school day on Friday, April 24th<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit the Counseling Center to turn in your packet. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diploma of Merit &amp; Department Awards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>-The Diploma of Merit is a special diploma recognizing outstanding academic achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Who qualifies: Students with GPAs and CPAs of 3.0 and above and at least two areas within the curriculum where they meet the qualifications for areas of distinction are eligible for the Diploma of Merit.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Each department within the curriculum also offers an Award of Excellence for students who have a high level of success in the respective department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to apply: The application for the Diploma of Merit is included in the Senior Awards Packet. Graduating students may pick up packets to fill out at the beginning of Q4, located with Suzy in the Counseling Center.
