Hello Students and Parents,
After receiving final direction form the district and multiple meetings with our graduation committee, we have developed a Modified Graduation for our amazing seniors. It is important to know that the school board was concerned that many students would not be available or have the opportunity to be recognized if graduation was postponed. I agree that it would be difficult to have my child left out in the hopes that we might be able to do something else on an undetermined date. We are excited to share with you our plan.
Thursday, May 7, 2020- Students will pick up their caps and gowns, diploma covers, and Personalized Yard Signs. You will also have the opportunity to put on your cap and gown and have your picture taken by Bell Photography. They will offer those photos for purchase if desired. Because this is not our stage walk (see May 26) and we need to keep crowds small, , only the student will be allowed in the gym for the photo.
May 7-May 26- Parents will have over two weeks to take pictures of their graduate with family and friends on your own. You are welcome to take those pictures in front of the Block C or on the football field if you desire.
May 22, 2020- A modified virtual graduation will be posted on Youtube at 6:00 p.m. for all graduates, family, and friends to view. You will be able to save this as a keepsake. The program will keep all of the components of a traditional graduation, including your student personally recognized as a graduate of Cyprus High School.
May 26, 2020- An optional stage experience will be offered by appointment for all graduates. Appointments will be every 10 minutes from 11-7 p.m. You may begin scheduling your time on Friday, May 8. You will be able to find the link for online scheduling on the Cyprus Website under “Online Scheduler.” There will be two stages available at Cyprus for graduates to walk cross and have their names read. Parents may also take an up-close picture of the graduate on the stage. To adhere to current restrictions, each graduate may only bring two parents or guardians. Unfortunately, siblings, grandparents, and friends may not participate in this to ensure the safety of all. Parents are free to take pictures or record the experience if they desire. While there will be an administrator and teachers there to congratulate you, we will adhere to the social distancing guidelines to keep you safe and healthy. Walk-ins will not be available, so please make sure you schedule your opportunity to walk across the stage in advance.
Students will need to return their gowns to Cyprus by May 26 to get their diploma. You get to keep the cap, but the gowns need to be returned in order to receive your diploma. If you choose not to participate in the stage walk, you may return your gown to the Cyprus main office on May 22 or 26 and receive your diploma.
We understand that this is not the same experience as a traditional graduation, but we have been very conscientious of your concerns. Students on the committee were clear that the opportunity to have your name read and walk across a stage was the most important piece missing from a modified graduation. Because of this, we felt it important to offer the optional stage experience on May 26.
Thank you for helping us navigate these unchartered waters.
