M.S. Degree in Conservation Zoology from Miami (OH) University (In Progress) B.S. Degree in Anthropology & Archaeology from Utah State University B.S. Degree in Ancient History from Utah State University B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Utah Valley University This is my 2nd year teaching 6th grade at H.R. Driggs Elementary, and I am currently teaching science and history. Before coming to Driggs I spent three years at Utah’s Hogle Zoo in the education and animal care department. One of my great joys in life is teaching students about our natural world, and how was can preserve all of its natural beauty for generations to come. I believe that every student can succeed, and my job as their teacher is to simply guide and encourage them as they change the world. As a lifelong learner I spend the majority of my time teaching, or being taught. When I am not at school, or the library you can find me at a Utah Jazz game or cheering for my beloved Aggies, or Green Bay Packers football teams. Go Pack Go!

My name is James Martin. I have been in education for 21 years. I have taught kindergarten, first, fourth, and fifth grades. I am excited to be teaching my first year of 6th grade at Driggs Elementary! I have been a principal in Salt Lake City School District for 10 years at schools such as Edison Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, and Riley Elementary. I also worked at the district office for a couple of years as a principal supervisor and coach. I have a son named Jayden. He is 14 years old and goes to Highland High School. He loves to play soccer. Together, we love to go to movies, ride in the car, and play with our dogs Junior, Chuck, and Rosie. I love to read. I spend quite a bit of time reading every day. I also love tennis, being with my family, and eating out. I love New York and plan to travel there during the fall break. I have a Bachelor of Education from Westminster College certifying me to teach 1st grade thru 8th grade. I also have a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from the University of Utah. Finally, I earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy (2008). I have a level 3 teaching license, I am a state-certified reading specialist, and I have ESL and theater endorsements. I am happy to be back in the classroom. I have missed teaching, and I have learned a lot from educational leadership that I think will help me be an even better teacher than I was when I left. I am thrilled to be working with such a great principal, teaching staff, students, parents, and community that comprise Howard Driggs Elementary!
