About Darren Johnson

Hello to all the students, staff, and families of Driggs Elementary School!
Please allow me to give a brief introduction about myself.
I am currently the principal at Diamond Ridge Elementary School which is part of the Kearns High School network.  I have enjoyed the time I’ve been here with the staff, students, and families of Diamond Ridge, and I am very excited to join the Driggs community as your next principal.
I have been married to my wife Emily for 32 years, and together we have four children (3 sons and 1 daughter) and five grandchildren.  Our oldest son will finish dental school in June.  Our second son plays professional basketball in England.  Our third son will get married in June, and will play basketball for the University of Hawaii next year.  Our daughter is attending Utah State University.  Some of my hobbies are traveling, hiking, reading, attending basketball games, and spending time with family.
I am originally from Idaho Falls, Idaho and graduated from Utah State University.  I have been a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent  in Oregon and a principal in two different school districts in Utah.  I also spent two years working in a school overseas.  I have worked in the state of Oregon for 19 years, Utah for 8 years, and in Germany for 2 years.
People are always curious about my experience in Germany, so to let you know, during those two years, I was the principal of Smith Elementary School on the U.S. Army base at Baumholder, Germany from 2009-2011 (picture included, although I was 15 years younger!).  I was honored to work with the children and families of U.S. Army soldiers serving overseas.  It was an incredible experience for my family to learn about the U.S. military, and to travel around western Europe (picture included).
As a principal, I love to support teachers in their day-to-day work with children, and I value each child at school.  I look forward to continuing the great programs at Driggs where students are valued, challenged, and given outstanding opportunities to grow.   It’s all about the kids!
