Dear Eastwood Families,
As many of you have heard, the board voted earlier this month to conduct a population analysis study of the elementary schools in the Skyline and Olympus networks. This study includes Eastwood Elementary. Population analysis studies are conducted in areas where student population numbers have changed significantly. As a result of this study, there could be school boundary adjustments, school consolidations, or school closures.
Our perspective and feedback matters in this process. The committee truly wants to know the details specific to Eastwood that they may be missing as they work to make the best decision possible for all students. In past studies, the committee has pivoted and adjusted as they find out new information. There will be multiple ways to provide feedback in the form of community meetings and written feedback. I highly recommend attending these meetings. I have been told these will start in late March, so will share information on these as soon as I receive it. Also, you can find more information on the Planning and Boundaries page of the district website. (Population Analysis Study/URL)
When something like this comes about, we are given a unique opportunity to create something new—something that celebrates growth, collaboration, and resilience. Understandably, there are big emotions involved. Our schools are such a big part of our lives and identities. Sometimes we pick where we live based on the school community we want to be a part of. Remember, we are all better together. The more we unite now, the easier a possible transition will be. Let’s build a space where every voice is heard and every individual matters. Together, we can encourage a community that continues the spirit of learning, compassion, and support that Eastwood has always provided.
I love our Eastwood students, families, teachers, and staff. I want to do my best in supporting everyone through this process. I look forward to being on this journey with you.
Best,
Christine Drummond, Principal
