Dear Eastwood Families,
I hope this message finds you well. I am pleased to introduce Matthew Graham as the new principal of Eastwood Elementary, effective July 1. Principal Graham has been principal at Arcadia Elementary and is loved there. Principal Graham has a background in fine arts and appreciates the importance of being part of a designated STEAM school. I asked Principal Graham to provide some information about himself and he shared the following:
Next year, I will have been an administrator in GSD for 19 years. I’ve been with the district for 21 years and before that, I worked in the Salt Lake School District. I have been an elementary principal since 2013. I have been principal of Plymouth Elementary and of course, Arcadia.
I graduated from BYU in Italian Language and Literature with a minor in music (vocal performance). I have a master’s degree in music (vocal performance) from the University of Utah, and another master’s from the University of Phoenix in Administration and Supervision. During my bachelor’s degree years, I attended The Hart School of Music in Connecticut and Boston University participating in their opera programs..
I served a mission to northern Italy and now speak “Italianized Spanish” very poorly. 😊 I sang in the chorus of the Utah Opera for many years but the duties of the principalship forced me to retire about seven years ago.
My interests and hobbies include traveling, learning languages, reading and research, international cinema, swimming, and enjoying time with my family.
In the coming weeks, Principal Graham will have opportunities to connect with staff, students, and families, and I encourage you to extend a warm welcome as he transitions into this role. He will continue to build on our school’s success while fostering a positive and enriching environment for our students.
Thank you for your continued support of Eastwood Elementary. It has truly been a privilege to serve this community
Best,
Christine Drummond
