Cooperative Education Program
Eastwood’s Co-op Program offers parents the opportunity to become more involved with their child’s education journey. Our Co-Op parents work with their child’s teacher to share their expertise through interesting and exciting class presentations which result in parental satisfaction and enhanced student learning.
As an Eastwood Co-op parent you will:
Experience a strong sense of community as you get to know and work with all of the parents and students in your child’s class.
Gain a new perspective of how your child learns and interacts with other students.
Have the opportunity to accompany your child on educational field trips.
Find that your child’s class will score well on standardized testing due to increased parent involvement.
Be a valued member of the only Co-op program in Granite School District.
Your responsibilities will include:
Attendance at one evening planning meeting held on the first Thursday of each month (approximately 1 ½ hours in length).
Investing at least three hours per week (1.5 hours in the classroom and 1.5 hours outside of class: grading, preparing for your weekly in-class assignments, etc.)
Making a suggested donation of $50.00 per child in the program.
Parental Comments about our Co-op program are:
“The community feeling is amazing! I know I have many parents who know and care about my child.”
“Co-op provides better communication between parents and teachers.”
“The amount of caring, attention, and hands on learning has given my child an advantage, and he has excelled in the environment.”
Parent involvement is a high indicator of student success. A study published by the University of Wisconsin-Madison states: “When parents are involved, students get better grades, score higher on standardized test, have better attendance records, drop our less often, have higher aspirations, and more positive attitudes toward school and homework”. In his recent publication, John Hattie listed Parental Involvement as number 51 of 150 influences on student achievement ranking above motivation, homework, class size and charter schools. At Eastwood, we have a population of parents who are willing to be involved and engaged in the education of their students. We encourage you to explore this enriching educational opportunity.
