Process for Electing the School Community Council

Parent members shall be elected by eligible parents or guardians of students attending Eisenhower Jr. High School in accordance with Utah law, Utah State Board of Education requirements, and Granite School District procedures. The principal or designee shall provide notice of the election to eligible parents and shall communicate: The school may use electronic, in-person, mail, or other district-approved voting methods as permitted by law and district policy. Uncontested Elections If the number of qualifi ed candidates does not exceed the number of available parent positions, the candidates may be declared elected without a contested election if permitted by applicable Utah law and Granite School District procedures.

Membership

The Eisenhower Jr. High School Community Council shall consist of exactly: The school principal shall serve as one of the two school employee members. A parent member must be a parent or guardian of a student who attends Eisenhower Jr. High School or who will be enrolled at Eisenhower Jr. High School during the parent's term of office. A school employee member must be employed at Eisenhower Jr. High School by the school or school district. A school employee who is employed at Eisenhower Jr. High School and is also the parent or guardian of a student attending the school shall serve as a school employee member rather than a parent member. The council shall maintain a membership that complies with Utah law and Granite School District requirements.

Staggered Terms

The six parent positions shall be divided into two groups of three positions to ensure that approximately one-half of the parent positions are open for election each year. The principal's position on the council is tied to the principal's employment as the school principal and is not subject to a parent election. If an initial or transitional election requires a one-year term to establish the staggered schedule, the council shall designate the appropriate positions for one-year and two-year initial terms so that the council moves to the three-and-three parent election cycle.

Filling Vacancies

If a parent position becomes vacant during the member's term, the remaining parent members of the council shall appoint a qualifi ed parent to fill the vacancy in accordance with Utah law and Granite School District procedures. When practical, the school may seek expressions of interest from eligible parents before the council makes the appointment. The appointed member shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term.
