Dear Evergreen Parents,
With the reduction in instruction time this year, many of the “more fun” units and activities had to be skipped in order to cover the essential strands and standards for classes. Mr. Twining, the Engineering and Technology teacher here at Evergreen, is hosting a “Robotics Boot Camp” this summer for a small group of interested students. This is open to any student at Evergreen in 6-8 grades. It will be at no cost to you and take place from June 8-10. Each day the camp will run from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The students will learn how to build and program robots and the camp will culminate with a round robin sumo-bot competition in the gym. Families will be invited to come and view the fun as teams go head to head to try to push the opposing robot off the field. Also during the three days students will learn to program and fly drones through an obstacle course. In addition, the campers will take a field trip to a local business to see robots in action in the real world.
Finally, while the first two days will be a BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) affair, the last day will have a pizza party in celebration of surviving the camp. Currently there are 18 students who have registered for the camp and we have 9 slots left. If you are interested in having your student come, print out the registration form and email it back to Mr. Twining firstname.lastname@example.org. You also can drop off the form on Tuesday if there are any slots left. Please ensure that your student will be able to attend all three days before committing to come.
Thanks for your support of Evergreen’s Technology and Engineering department! If you have any questions about the camp direct them to Mr. Twining.
