A few years ago my son entered a science fair with a project to clear out the inversions and poor air quality during the winter time. Unfortunately he was only elven years old and has not implemented his project! At Fox Hills we check the air quality in the morning and before lunch to determine who needs to stay inside. We use the app UtahAir which is created by the Utah Division of Air Quality. We look at the air quality in three different locations in Salt Lake County: Hawthorne Elementary in Salt Lake, Herriman, and Rose Park. When the air quality is in the orange we announce that all students with respiratory or sensitive symptoms stay inside. If the air quality turns to red, all students need to stay in. Please note that we do not watch the news to determine if students stay inside or go outside. We make a determination form the three locations nearest to Fox Hills. If you have a student in the sensitive category, please notify the office and your child’s teacher. I know we are all ready for spring and look forward to spending a lot more time outdoors.
