I hope you are all enjoying the warm sunny weather and finding time to enjoy the company of your families. Teachers have already begun to prepare for yet another amazing school year. I am excited to get to know our families and to serve the Gourley Community as your new Principal. I feel lucky to be working with such a great community and a fabulous faculty of teachers and support staff. I would like to share with you some information to help the beginning of the school year start out great.
Home Visits: On August 7th and 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. some of our teachers will be out and about in the community visiting with their future students and families. This is a great time for teachers to meet students one to one and begin building a positive relationship for the year.
Registration: New students will need to come to the office with birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of address to register for the 2019-20 school year. For returning students, registration materials will be sent home the first day of school. Please fill out the required forms and return them to school the following day.
Lunch Applications: You must reapply for Free and Reduced Lunch each year. Teachers will be bringing paper copies of the application with them on their home visits. You can always get a paper copy at the office as well. If you prefer to do this online, you may do so by going to www.applyforlunch.com. If you do not apply, your child will be moved to “full-pay” status and you will be responsible to pay their lunch. The amount of Title 1 funds that comes to the school is directly tied to this lunch program. We hope to see all families take advantage of this program. If you need more information, please contact the office at 385-646-4846.
Back to School Morning: We invite all families to come back to school morning on August 19th. Teachers will be in their classrooms from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. to greet students and parents. Every student will receive a new backpack at this time and have an opportunity to become acquainted with their classroom prior to class activities beginning at 9:00 a.m. There will be a bank of computers set up during this time in the main hallway of our school, along with staff members, available to help parents complete the free and reduced lunch application. We hope that you will come with the necessary information to utilize these computers and complete the application. PTA, our Gourley Family Center, United Way, and University Health will all have a table set up to provide families with information and resources. We hope that you will consider joining PTA this year. Our family center offers many wonderful classes and resources for parents to help them work with their children to be successful at school. We hope that you will consider spending some time at the school. There are numerous ways you can become involved and show your children you support their school and value education. We are a team all working towards academic, social, and emotional success for your children. Enjoy the remainder of the summer break. We look forward to having children back to school very soon and enjoying a fun and successful school year together. If you have any questions, please contact the school. Sincerely, Briar Mattucci, Principal David Gourley Elementary
