This form determines your eligibility for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/grants\/pell\">Pell Grant<\/a>&nbsp;(don\u2019t need to pay back),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/loans\">Loans<\/a>&nbsp;(need to pay back), or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/work-study\">Work Study<\/a>&nbsp;(working on or off campus to help cover college costs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also several scholarships that require a FAFSA form to be completed in order to be eligible for the scholarship, such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ushe.edu\/state-scholarships-aid\/opportunity-scholarship\/\">USHE\u2019s Opportunity Scholarship<\/a>. Some schools also cover remaining tuition costs after the Pell Grant\u2019s amount has been applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more information on how to apply for the FAFSA, check out our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/grangerhigh\/granger-couseling-center\/college-and-career-access\/federal-aid\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"27348\">Financial Aid page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Loans<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Loans are money that you must give back, so they should be viewed as an option once scholarships and federal aid have been exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A general rule of thumb is to limit total student loan debt to less than your expected first-year starting salary. Borrow only what you need, aiming for a comfortable 10-year repayment plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-You can get loans through the FAFSA, through your college\/university, or through a bank\/credit union:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you need a loan, start at the federal level:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/loans\">FAFSA Loan information<\/a>. Subsidized loans do not accrue until you graduate or you drop below half-time enrollment and are typically the best financial option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you do not qualify for a federal loan (or if your federal loan offer is too small to cover the cost of your education), look at the private level:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not all colleges provide loans or payment plans, so call your college\u2019s Financial Aid office to get more information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact your personal bank or credit union for information on how to take out a private student loan.
