Dear families,
LAST WEEK: We had a great last week to the quarter. As a capstone to our college week, all eighth grade students went on college field trips. Some pictures of our college week trivia and these campus visits are on our school Twitter account @graniteparkjhs. Thursday after school we held our end-of-quarter school dance. The students were very well-behaved and had a great time. We had a fun student versus faculty soccer game on Wednesday where the teachers won. Our student leadership groups attended a summit here at Granite Park on Friday where they attended workshops, heard excellent guest speakers (including our State Superintendent), and ended with a color battle.
CHANGE IN WEATHER: Please note that this week the temperatures are dropping significantly. Please send your students with coats since the temperatures will be freezing much of the week.
TRUNK OR TREAT: Our trunk or treat will happen as scheduled. We are modifying some of the activities so they are inside rather than outside. Starting at 5:30, families can come to Granite Park for the fun. Please enter in through the main door. There will be a route outlined where your child can trick or treat, visiting many classrooms in the school. Then they will get to visit our “haunted relo” building outside. Lastly, families will end in the cafeteria for chili, rootbeer, cider, and can create their own marshmallow pops while visiting and enjoying games. We will wrap up the evening at 7:00pm. See you there!
HALLOWEEN DRESS UP: Students are welcome to dress up on Thursday. As a staff, we love to dress up–almost all of our staff did last year! Students costumes will still need to comply with dress code. No weapons or facsimiles will be allowed with costumes. No blood or gore as well. I’m excited to see what students will dress up as!
REPORT CARDS: Report cards will be given out this week to students. Since each of our feeder elementary schools had Proficiency-Based Grading, you are likely going to be familiar with the format of the report card. If you had students who attended Granite Park previously, then you will note the report cards will look different in year’s past. The two attachments explain the reason for the change of format (one in English, the other Spanish).

VETERANS DAY PICTURES: Thank you, parents, for sending your students with pictures of veterans who have served in your family. These will be part of our special Veterans Day production held on November 11th from 10:!5-11:15. I hope all of you parents can attend. If you haven’t sent a picture of your student’s family member who served in the military yet and would like to, please keep this in mind to do so.
NEXT WEEK’S PARENT EMAIL: Next week I will be sending out information for early open enrollment, our fall play, as well as student reward activities for showing excellence during 1st quarter. Stay tuned!
Best,
Aaron Wilson
