Artist: Brenda, 7th grade
Title of artwork: Leonardo DiCaprio
Medium (materials): Soft Medium and Hard Charcoal, Graphite Pencils, Mechanical Pencils, Vine Charcoal, Blending Stump/tortillion.
Statement: In this piece I tried to draw a young Leo DiCaprio. In most of my portraits I don’t go full out and use a lot of charcoal but I added a lot more to add sharper details. When I started off making this I began making the head shape and then I added the facial features with a graphite pencil in the places I saw fit best. I sketched it over. I added more and more detail to everything little by little. I took an eraser to brighten certain areas up I added more vine charcoal to the background and I moved the blending stump in circles to get the background look. The perfect place to display my artwork would be in my own collection of portraits. As I am still growing as an artist I have a certain way the portraits look to me. I would display them on my walls and look at all of them and see how I improved and used more or less materials. I knew what I wanted to draw and who, but I hadn’t gotten much time until after I understood what pictures I could use. I drew a portrait of Leo on April 23rd and I didn’t like the way it turned out so I decided I would “try again tomorrow” and on the 24th this is due so I worked and took my time to put everything I was planning into place. I tried to make it perfect and I took it slow which made me learn certain things about the materials I used and how to use them better.
