As we wrap up November and head into the holiday season it is a great time to reflect and give thanks to those around us. I want to acknowledge the cast of many who make Hunter Elementary the best school around. The teachers, and staff for their unending energy and dedication to student learning and growth; to the office staff for their personal touch in supporting students and community needs; to our custodial and food service teams for countless hours of work to keep our campus clean and our students fed; and of course to our students and families for whom this is all about-We love and are thankful to be a part of your lives.
It is almost December and we are looking forward to all the excitement that comes with this time of year. At Hunter Elementary one of our December traditions has been to ring in the winter season with a Holiday singing performance. This year Hunter students will still showcase a holiday song but in a way that allows for our families and community members to take part from a safe distance. December 16th, Hunter students will take part in a virtual sing around that will be recorded and accessible for families to watch from the comfort of your home. Please join us as we showcase our students during this time (further details to come).
Please remember that arriving on time is a great way to start the day. With the weather getting colder, rainier, and (sometimes) snowier, it can be awfully cold outside. Please plan accordingly and ensure your student(s) are dressed for the weather.
We continue to work toward building literacy in all academic areas with our students. I am hopeful that all our families will help to support our efforts to improve the reading and writing skills of our students. Reading at home (15-20min) is a great way to build students capacity and growth in reading. This independent reading is vital for the development of reading skills.
December’s SEL (social emotional learning) theme is I Find Ways to Agree. Understanding and problem solving are skills students focus on as we stress that Hunter knights are respectful, even when they disagree with someone. During the month of December, students will participate in lessons focused on developing understanding for others.
The next three weeks until Winter Break will go very quickly. Please make sure to see our December calendar for a list of the many events/activities that we have planned.
Reminder that Winter Break will begin on December 19th with school resuming on Monday, January 4th.
Have a great December!
