We are glad to be able to offer our Wolverines the option of learning in-person and distance learning/online through Canvas. As for in-person students, distance learners will be responsible for the work and assessments assigned on Canvas by their teacher. We ask that parents and students be patient with our wonderful faculty as they are both
HOW DO I GET SET UP TO BE A DISTANCE LEARNER?
For those wishing to go online at Hunter High School, parents/guardians may complete the form in their Granite District Parent Portal under the Registration App or complete the Distance Learning Request Form and email it to our school’s registrar at lfoust@graniteschools.org. You will receive a confirmation email stating the form has been received, processed, and that your student is set up on Distance Learning.
CAN I RETURN TO IN-PERSON LEARNING AND IF SO, HOW DO I DO THAT?
If a student and/or parent wishes for the student to return to in-person instruction, then please contact your student’s administrator to set up an appointment. You may find your student’s administrator and email at Hunter High School Administration. A PARTIAL DISTANCE LEARNING REQUEST FORM needs to be completed by both student and parent before meeting with an administrator to make a change. Please be advised that administration will encourage that a student remain online for the entire quarter for the benefit of both the student and teachers.
Deadlines for switching In-Person and/or Distance Learning Options:
Quarter 1: Thursday, September 24th by 2:30pm
Quarter 2: Friday, November 6th by 2:30pm
Quarter 3: Friday, January 29th by 2:30pm
Form to switch learning environment needs to be turned into the main office
You do not need to complete a new form every quarter. Your choice from the previous quarter will roll over into the next quarter.
Quarter 4: Friday, April 16th by 2:30pm
Frequently Asked Questions for Distance Learners
Q: When can I check out a Chromebook from the school’s media center?
A: Starting Tuesday, August 25th (or the 2nd day of the semester) in the Media Center, students may checkout a Chromebook and sign the checkout form like all in-person students. Checkout times for Distance Learners is from 8am-3pm. Students will enter in the main east doors of the school and exit out the same door once a Chromebook is checked out.
Q: When does my class begin and how do I access my classes?
A: Student courses on Canvas for 1st Semester will begin on Monday, August 24th (for A Day Classes) and Tuesday, August 25th (for B Day Classes). You may access Canvas on your Granite Portal (student logs in) and find the Canvas App. The student is responsible to remain up to date on class requirements/courses work.
Q: I forgot my log-in to the Granite Portal to access Canvas?
A: Student log ins/passwords are the same as last year and/or the updated password students set over the summer. If you can’t log into the Portal or Canvas, then please email jcoffey@graniteschools.org with your full name, student number, and a description of the specific issue you are facing. Please be patient as our staff members will answer your email in the order that they are received when they have a break.
Q: If I need to, when can I check out books from my teacher, gather materials from my teacher, and check out books from the school’s media center?
A: All distance learning students may pick up items from their teachers on regularly scheduled Friday school days (Teachers will set up and communicate time for students to come in. Speak directly to your teacher on those times). Students will report directly to their teacher who will have the items for pick up. If there is any confusion on this, please speak directly to the teacher. Distance Learners will have access to check out materials from our school’s library on Fridays from 8:30am – 3pm.
Q: May Distance Learners complete work in the school’s media center or on campus when they are scheduled to be home?
A: Due to COVID concerns and policies in place, all distance learners will need to complete their work at home Monday-Thursday. If in-person help is needed, please contact your teacher directly and set up a time to come in on Fridays.
Q: What if my student becomes sick or must be out of school for a period of time?
A: The student, no matter if they are in-person or distance learners, may complete the work online through the course Canvas pages set up by their teacher. Course work will still be required if a student is out of school.
Once again, if you are sick, on vacation, or for any other reason that you are not in school the Chromebook allows you to still stay on top of your class work. The Canvas pages and in class work go hand in hand. Students, yes if you are a in-person learner you are still liable for the work assigned even if you are not in the building. This is an expectation for college and career preparation. #YouCanDoThis
Speak to your student’s teacher directly with questions.
Q: What if I miss school due to a positive COVID test and/or I’m directed by the Health Department to quarantine?
A: Students who are exhibiting symptoms of illness should remain home. Parents/guardians may excuse student absences as they deem necessary. Absences due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis or quarantine, will not result in penalties for the student. All other attendance expectations will remain in effect. Please contact the school’s attendance office (385-646-5363) to report these absences.
Q: What if I want to return to in-person school instead of distance learning?
A: Once a student elects to go online for 1 or more classes, to return to in-person learning they and their parent/guardian must make an appointment with the designated school administrator.
Q: What happens on Friday?
A: Remember that in-person students will be in the building Monday – Thursday. On Fridays, students will be home completing online class work for that particular day (A or B) as previously scheduled for on the Granite School District A/B Schedule. For example August 28, 2020 is an A Day. Now do you have to be up at 7:30am completing work? No, but this is your chance to show your maturity, be a self motivator and complete what is required of you.
School Lunch is served on Fridays (regularly scheduled school days) from 10:30am-11:15am in the schools cafeteria. All current Hunter High students are welcome (distance or in-person students).
A/B Day Schedule for 2020-21 – We will follow this for both in-person and distance learners
