Our School’s Namesake <\/span><\/strong>Jackling Elementary school was named after Daniel C. Jackling (August 14, 1869 \u2013 March 13, 1956). He was an American\u00a0mining and metallurgical engineer who pioneered the exploitation of low-grade copper\u00a0ores at the Bingham Copper Mine, Utah.<\/p>\n

\"Daniel_C._Jackling<\/a>Daniel Jackling was educated in mining and metallurgy at the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri, now known as Missouri University of Science and Technology. In 1898, Jackling and Robert C. Gemmell made a detailed examination of the Bingham Canyon copper property. They recommended open pit mining, using steam shovels to load railroad cars, a novel idea at the time. In 1903, Jackling organized the Utah Copper Company to put his plan into action. The mine proved to be profitable, and open-pit mining of low-grade copper deposits came to dominate the industry by mid-century.<\/p>\n

Jackling went on to a very successful and lucrative career as a manager and executive for many copper companies, including the Utah Copper Company, in the Western U.S. He was honored with numerous professional awards, including the Washington Award from the Western Society of Engineers for pioneering in large-scale mining and treatment of low-grade copper ores, releasing vast resources from formerly worthless deposits.
\nHis collected papers were given to the Stanford University Library.<\/p>\n

Jackling Elementary School Today<\/span><\/strong>Enrollment<\/p>\n

Jackling Elementary serves approximately 400 students from kindergarten through sixth grade.<\/p>\n

Computers and technology<\/p>\n

Jackling Elementary prides itself on using technology to improve student learning. Jackling takes part in the district Blended Learning Grant, which provides one chromebook for every student and technology enhanced instructional training for our teachers. All of our classrooms are participating. Also, every classroom, Kindergarten through 6th grade is interactive with mounted LCD projectors, audio enhancement, and either an interactive whiteboard or interactive tablet.\u00a0 We also have two fully-equipped student computer labs and house a district computer lab on the school site.<\/p>\n

Community support<\/p>\n

Jackling Elementary School has a strong and supportive PTA. We encourage all parents to get involved their child\u2019s education by reinforcing what is taught at school, helping with homework, and attending our fun family and community activities.<\/p>\n

Student promotion<\/p>\n
