The end of the year is quickly approaching and there is lots of activity happening at Mill Creek! Please read through this email as there is a lot of information to share.
First of all, I want to thank the teachers and students in the 3rd – 6th grades who are in the middle of end of year RISE testing. This year has been especially stressful because the new state mandated testing platform has been inconsistent at best. The system has had numerous issues including logging students out mid-test, not allowing students to log out at the end of the test, etc. The state is working diligently to correct these issues but it has been a stressful time for our hard working students and teachers. Please know we are doing everything we can at Mill Creek to alleviate as much of the stress as possible. Our students are smart and will show what they know regardless of the testing challenges!

Technology is changing fast, and many of us are struggling to stay one step ahead of our kids and learn everything we can about being online. This isn’t an easy task—our kids have never known life without the Internet, and in many cases, they know more about it than we do.
Please join us as we discuss what our children are doing online and how to teach them to be smart, safe, and respectful digital citizens. You’ll learn about:
• The importance of knowing the sites and apps your child uses
• How kids are using mobile devices like smartphones and tablets
• Social networking sites and how to help your child use them wisely
• What to do if your child encounters online bullying
• Objectionable content and what to do if your child views it
• The importance of teaching your child to find a healthy balance with technology use
• Your role in keeping the conversation going about responsible Internet use
Appetizers will be provided!
