Mill Creek Memo – week of 1/24/21
Greetings Mill Creek Mustangs!
We’ve got a couple of important things to let you know about. First Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up and I have a special note from our PTA President, Patti Hession. Our PTA has a fun activity for your students to participate in.
SEP Conferences: The best way you can participate in your child’s education is to talk to your child’s teacher. We are a team and need to work together for the success and growth of your child. It is very important for you to meet with your child’s teacher during Conferences, February 8 and 9.
Conferences again will be via Zoom due to the pandemic. Teachers will be sending out individual zoom links closer to your conference. For now, please sign up for a conference appointment. Directions are attached to the bottom of this post. Password: mustangs

A Message from our PTA President, Patti Hession:
My name is Patti Hession and I will be your PTA President for the remainder of the school year. My PTA board is as follows: John Tuutau Vice President, Nichole Towers – Treasurer. As you can see our board is quite small but we are up for the fun that we can provide your students. We are in need of some help if you are willing to help for small things or larger please email me at pattihession@hotmail.com or call/text me at 801-558-5412. If you don’t know what PTA does at your school we are lucky enough to provide all the FUN! We do reflections, class parties, dinners for teachers, and spirit nights. With COVID we haven’t been able to do what we normally would like to do at the school with volunteer help and being involved with classroom parties but we have been able to get creative and still provide the students with some smiles. Here is some of the things we are planning on doing the next couple months which we would love your students to be a part of:
January-February: We are going to do Reflections. The theme is “I Matter Because.” Your student can draw or paint a picture, write a story or a poem, make a dance, write a song or play a song, or take a photo. They can even do 2D or 3D art. Just have your student write up a little explanation of his/her project and how it pertains to the theme. There will be awards for the participants. Projects will be due at the school on February 16th. Please reach out to Patti if you have any questions.
March: We will be doing a fun activity called “You’ve Got Mail.” This helps promote writing in a fun way. Each student will get a pen pal for the week and they get to send each other letters each day. For the younger students they can make pictures to send their pen pals. We even encourage parents and family members that may live out of state to send a postcard to the school. This will be happening March 15 – 19th. Please look for emails with more details or reach out to Patti.
Some fun spirit nights will be coming up to help support the PTA as well. More info to come. We want the face to face kids and the distant learners to all feel special during this crazy time. These are activities that all the kids can participate in.
Parents you can still purchase a PTA membership its $7.00 all you need to do is make a check out to Millcreek PTA and drop of mail it to the school. This membership helps us keep up with the fun things PTA can do for our students/teachers.
Again please reach out to Patti if you are available and willing to help in this crazy time.

Utah HERO Project comes to Mill Creek
Granite School District is participating in the Utah HERO (Health & Economic Recovery Outreach) project by the University of Utah to help public health officials understand the spread of COVID-19 so that we can improve the safety of all students and staff. You may be contacted by a public health official and (1) asked to provide additional information about your child’s health and their school activities; and (2) offered confidential, free, and convenient testing to figure out if your child is infected with COVID-19.
To learn more about the HERO project, please visit this website: https://eccles.utah.edu/utah-hero/.

Mill Creek Special Memo
The following was also sent as an email on Monday, 11/09/20
In response to Governor Herbert’s State of Emergency, I wanted to ensure everyone that Mill Creek Elementary is open and students are learning. We encourage families who are at school in person continue to do so.
At Mill Creek, we are doing our part to wear masks, social distance and wash hands. We are trying our best and encourage all of our families to do their best outside of school.
If you or your child is exposed, or tests positive for COVID-19, please let me know. We want to ensure that we follow all the protocols that keep us as safe and healthy as possible.
Part of the Governor’s order is all before and after school programs are canceled until November 23. At Mill Creek, this means that Riverton Music Band and Orchestra morning program is canceled until November 23. This also means that there is no before or afterschool program at Mill Creek.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I will do my best to support you. I’ve attached the message from Granite School District to this email.
As a side note, great job with the new traffic flow today! Keep up the great work!
