Parents,
We know many of you are asking about what distance learning will look like at Morningside. With the difficult person decision to engage in distance learning or attend school face to face, we acknowledge that these two learning modalities look different. We don’t want you to feel like distance learning isn’t happening, there are asynchronous activities available to work on from home while the face to face students are learning the procedures and routines of attending school during a pandemic. I wanted to send out this short FAQ email that will hopefully give you some answers and direction.
FAQ
- Will my child only see their teacher online on Fridays? Teachers are working now to record instruction and have it posted online that will pace with the face to face learners. Teachers are looking at their schedules right now to find time when they will be able to connect with distance learners for a period in the day. We are looking at different ways to allow for extra touchpoints, for example, today we had some teachers try hosting a Google Meet with their face to face learners as well as their distance learners.
- Will my child have 7 hours of distance learning instruction to match the 7 hours children are in school? It would be unreasonable for us to ask students learning from home to be online for 7 hours a day. Students learning at home will get the core curriculum and essential concepts, they will not be expected to be online learning during the times that students in the building move between classes, recess, P.E., art, library, lunch, etc. Both face to face and distance learning instruction is based on core standards.
- When will all online curriculum be posted on the teacher’s website/Google Classroom? Teachers will be adding curriculum throughout the week to their websites and Google Classrooms. Teachers are filming and creating materials throughout the week- teachers will communicate and be flexible with work completion through distance learning.
We are looking to hire paraeducators to assist teachers with managing their classroom so they can be online and to help manage online curriculum. If you are aware of anyone interested and qualified in joining our Morningside team, please have them call the office 385-646-4924.
Thank you,
Anne Reese and the Morningside Team
