We are so excited to bring “hands on science” and a STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) lab to Oakridge this year! 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will cycle through the lab once a week on Mondays or Tuesdays, performing experiments following the Common Core Lessons plus other exciting STEM learning. The younger grades are offered the STEM lab anytime Wed-Fri with their teacher, and STEM instructor-led classes as requested by their teachers on Monday mornings. We are interested in hosting guest teachers for exposure to all STEM topics, so if you would consider volunteering to teach a few hours of your STEM profession or hobby, we want to make it happen! We have many parents/family members and community members/neighbors that have much to offer the Oakridge young minds, we will help you make your own interest fun and exciting to kids using experiments! Ideas of focus are, but not limited to; anything medical, research, statistics, building/engineering, environment, plant/animal life, space/astronomy, geology, health, earth studies, archaeology, physics, computer/technology, and many more related fields.
We have a few supplies to begin the year’s experiments but will need funds to purchase supplies as the year progresses. Please consider making a donation to the Oakridge Science Program anytime throughout the year in the school office. We will also be holding a Science Fundraiser soon, and let us know if you have any ideas on soliciting businesses for STEM donations.
Lastly, if you are not a STEM-involved person, but would still like to help, we can always use volunteers with the weekly class experiments. If you’re interested in volunteering in any way or donating, please contact Chantelle Kadlec at email@example.com. Some parents have already volunteered and donated and we thank everyone that has already.
We look forward to a fantastic year with the new STEM offering, thank you parents for all your support with Oakridge programs.
