Dear Oakridge Community,
I am excited to share with you the incredible experience I returned from early last week. I had the opportunity to participate in the 2018 Chinese Bridge Delegation, a week-long educational program in China. As an administrative delegate, I was able to visit schools, share best practices, build partnerships, and deepen my cultural understanding. I stayed in the country’s capital of Beijing and traveled southward to Zhengzhou in the province of Henan.
I will always remember the energy and enthusiasm that greeted us at each of the seven schools. We were welcomed by staff members and student guides, individuals eager to share their American names and to speak English with a native. Outside the buildings and throughout the halls, student artwork was proudly displayed. We delegates participated in conferences and ceremonies where we were entertained by orchestras, dances, operas, and Shaolin Kung Fu demonstrations. Each day was memorable and included once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
While in China, I often found myself full of gratitude. Gratitude not only for this amazing opportunity, but gratitude for each of you. Our Oakridge Community is one that is special. We have a community composed of parents, teachers, staff, and students dedicated to learning. You make it possible for us to provide art, dance, and music instruction to educate the whole child. Your support is invaluable. I appreciate you.
I look forward to sharing my learning with our students over the upcoming weeks and months. I hope to facilitate classroom and school connections with primary schools in China. I enjoyed my time in a foreign country and made many memories that I will forever cherish. However, Dorothy was right when she said, “There’s no place like home.” Thank you for letting me call Oakridge my home. Thank you for your support and dedication. Thank you for entrusting us with your most prized possessions.
