#OwlsSOAR by rising to the challenges we face each day.

As of January 26, 2022

Dear Granite District Parents and Families,

This is a reminder that there will be no in-person school this Friday, January 28th. Teachers will use the day for instructional planning and preparation.

As we notified you previously, our Board of Education recently approved the addition of 3 student non-attendance days for the current school year and calendar. A nationwide labor shortage has made it difficult to hire school support staff and find enough substitutes to cover for teachers who fall ill. As such, teachers are having to combine classes or fill in for one another on their preparation periods, leaving them little planning time. The following days have been adjusted to teacher contract days to allow for additional and much needed preparation and planning time to better support your students.

The new student non-attendance days are as follows:

  • Friday, January 28th
  • Friday, March 11th
  • Friday, May 6th

Here is a video from our Superintendent that further explains these calendar changes:

Recognizing the desire for student’s to continue to have opportunities to learn and grow on these days, we are providing resources for your at home use. Below is a link to a Student Learning Resources page that can be accessed for supplemental learning for this Friday, or any other time in which you wish to enhance your child’s learning and development. There is no requirement to report back the results of these activities to your teacher.

Student Learning Resources

A sack lunch — and breakfast, for students who have a breakfast program at their school — will be sent home with students tomorrow afternoon(Thursday, January 27th) to help fuel their Friday learning and activities when they are not in school. All students will be offered a sack lunch, but they are not obligated to take one.

We again express our appreciation for your support of these adjustments to the calendar.

Sincerely,

Granite School District
