{"id":7276,"date":"2016-08-30T21:10:15","date_gmt":"2016-08-31T03:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/olympushigh\/?page_id=7276"},"modified":"2018-10-23T14:00:14","modified_gmt":"2018-10-23T20:00:14","slug":"parents","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/schools.graniteschools.org\/olympushigh\/parents\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent Communication"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Hey Parents &amp; Students too!<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Did you know you can communicate with teachers from both<br \/>\nGradebook AND Canvas?<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Parents<\/strong> the e-mail you registered in the Granite Portal gets added to both Gradebook and Canvas.<br \/>\nLets look at them both right now.<br \/>\n<strong>Students<\/strong> your Microsoft account is automatically added.\u00a0 Did you even know you had that one?! \ud83d\ude09\u00a0 Change it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gradebook<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/esdportal.graniteschools.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Granite Gradebook and log in<\/a>\u00a0with your username and password.<\/li>\n<li>Or, log in to the Portal and click on Gradebook.<\/li>\n<li>Select a student by clicking on their name.<\/li>\n<li>At the top right click on &#8220;Settings&#8221; and click again on &#8220;Password&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your e-mail address is correct &#8211; change it if you need to.<\/li>\n<li>To e-mail a teacher. Click on Assignments. Under the teacher&#8217;s name is an e-mail icon. \u00a0Click it and type your message.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>&#8230;While you&#8217;re in Gradebook&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click on &#8220;Settings&#8221; and then on &#8220;Contacts&#8221;.\u00a0 Make sure it is all correct. If NOT &#8211; contact the registrar at their school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Canvas<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to Canvas (link is above) and log in\u00a0with your username and password.<\/li>\n<li>Or, log in to the Portal and click on Canvas<\/li>\n<li>Click on Account at the top left and choose &#8220;<strong>Settings<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>On the right side click on add &#8220;<strong>+ Contact Method<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>Add a contact method that you CHECK.<\/li>\n<li>Add your cell phone to receive a text message also. \u00a0(Follow the prompts)<\/li>\n<li>After your contact methods are added click on &#8220;<strong>Notifications<\/strong>&#8221; at the top left.<\/li>\n<li>On the left are the types of things you can be notified about. \u00a0Most important are Announcements<\/li>\n<li>Your contact methods (e-mail or texts) are listed on the right. \u00a0MouseOver the options and decide if you want a text (or e-mail) Right away, Daily, Weekly, or Never. \u00a0<em>(I suggest a text and an e-mail &#8211; The texts are NOT detailed enough.)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>&#8230;While you&#8217;re in Canvas&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click on &#8220;<strong>Calendar&#8221;<\/strong> to see your students calendar items. \u00a0Keep in mind this is for all your students in all their classes. So there might be a lot in there.\u00a0 (You can &#8220;de-select&#8221; calendars by clicking on them on the right side.)\u00a0 Clicking on an assignment takes you to that assignment. \u00a0Parents cannot submit but they can see the assignment.<\/li>\n<li>Click on &#8220;<strong>Inbox<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\nView any messages you may have.<br \/>\nClick on the Edit Tool (pencil\/paper) at the top in the middle.<br \/>\nChose the course you wish to send a message to.<br \/>\nIn the to box on the right. Click the person icon and select one. I assume &#8220;Teachers&#8221; then the name.<br \/>\nSubject and type your message. \u00a0You could also send an audio or video message if you wanted to or attach files.<\/li>\n<li>Teachers CAN do this exact same thing. \u00a0BUT they see and can send to ALL the students and\/or observers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of this can also be done on a\u00a0&#8220;device&#8221; or smartphone\u00a0as well using the Canvas\u00a0app (<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/canvas-by-instructure\/id480883488?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.instructure.candroid&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Droid<\/a>)\u00a0or a web browser, or the new <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/canvas-parent\/id1097996698?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parent App<\/a> for canvas.<\/p>\n<p>I am hearing students complain that they get &#8220;too many notifications&#8221; and therefor turn them <strong>all<\/strong> off. <strong>Bad idea!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Go to notifications and fix it by turning off<strong> some<\/strong> &#8211; depending on your teachers and what they use.!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Parents &amp; Students too!
